Swimming, Science, Adventure, Wilderness/Nature, and more. Adventure Based Programming. We Participate In Fun, Challenging, & Significant Events & Games, Providing Support Throughout.

CAMP LOCATION: We operate throughout the Yosemite backcountry. All youth trips meet in Tuolumne meadows which is approx. a 3.5-4 hour drive from the San Francisco Bay area. All trips end in Yosemite Valley proper.

CAMP FACILITIES: We teach respect for yourself, others, and the environment through a Yosemite backpacking adventure. Participants camp and sleep under the stars or in tents. We move locations and hike daily. We learn about nature and challenge ourselves to become better contributors in this world!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our outdoor summer camps, also known as the Yosemite High Country Adventure youth backpacking trips, are our specialty. Our weekly programs are six days/ five nights in length and average between 25-35 backpacking miles. These trips usually begin in the Yosemite High Country and conclude in Yosemite Valley proper. On all trips we conduct some side hikes (without backpacks) to famous sites and peaks (such as Half Dome, Clouds Rest, El Capitan, Mount Hoffman, and Red Peak).

These day trips average another 6 to 10 miles. Every other week we offer a different trail. So if you would like to choose a two-week adventure (13 days/ 12 nights) by combining two sessions; your child will be guaranteed to see different terrain each week. Additionally, by choosing the two-week option, your child will have a layover day in either Tuolumne Meadows or Yosemite Valley proper where the participants will partake in more sightseeing opportunities. During this layover day, participants will also have a chance to re-supply, wash-up, and eat some fresh food at a local eatery.

Throughout the adventure, participants will be guided along some of the most famous trails and to the top of some of the most famous passes and peaks within Yosemite National Park. Our experienced leaders have an extensive knowledge of the Yosemite backcountry. In addition to taking our participants to many of the famous locations, our leaders will also guide participants to lesser known areas that we have found over the years such as off-the-trail high alpine lakes (where fish are plentiful), backcountry waterfalls, alpine meadows, spectacular vistas, watering holes, cliff jumping areas, and natural waterslides.

On most trips, we backpack every day but one (a lay over day and location is usually agreed upon by the team) and we are on the trail for an average of 4-5 hours. Most of our trips go from a higher elevation to a lower elevation and throughout the experience we take our time, take in the views, and break at awesome watering holes. Yet, viewing the Yosemite backcountry is only one of the many outcomes that occur on these trips.

Our primary mission is to use the natural environment and outdoor activities to teach participants the necessary skills and attitudes for living successful lives. We also strive to foster an appreciation for the wilderness, nature, and the world around us. In addition to unique individual backgrounds and certifications, our leaders are all trained in Adventure Based Programming. Through Adventure Based Programming, participants will be challenged to improve their sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. Participants will participate in daily goal setting, group activities and debriefing (usually mixed in with marshmallows around the campfire.) This is all done within an environment of fun and support.

All participants will also learn basic backpacking skills, wilderness ethics, wilderness appreciation and engage in Leave No Trace principals. Along with creating lasting memories, it is our goal that participants will finish this adventure with a greater knowledge of themselves, the world, and the environment around them.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We develop Yosemite Guides! We have the only Junior Guide program in Yosemite. Open to youth ages 16-18 with a passion for the outdoors and helping others. 2-4 week sessions.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We are a non-profit! We offer scholarships on a sliding schedule. Please complete our Scholarship Application located on our Forms page.

As campers become comfortable with daily routines, they are encouraged to contribute and given opportunities to assume more leadership responsibilities. Those interested in expanding their horsemanship have opportunities to assist riders and learn about teaching skills.

Kathleen Elliott teaches skills and promotes confidence in horse care, safety practices, proper equitation and the joy of the relationship between horse and rider. Because our camp is a non-competitive, skills-oriented camp, we pride ourselves on giving our riders sound, safe information and practice with horse care and riding.

Our Summer HORSE PROGRAM is a fantastic way for children to learn about horses and riding as well as develop more proficient and nuanced riding skills. We have lots of fun riding and caring for some very sweet horses. Derived from Europe’s world winning teams’ academy programs our methods are simple and extremely effective… to allow Children to self-sufficiently teach themselves by correcting mistakes. Our motivational coaching methodology from autocratic to democratic intellects individuals to be creative and functional. “Children deserve to be treated as children and given the freedom to learn in a safe and happy environment.

“By eliminating the highly competitive environments at grass root levels, our young children are allowed grow in confidence and refrain from becoming discouraged by defeat. As they grow, these fundamental skills prepare them for realistic competition. At later developmental stages learning kids how to positively react to defeat in the correct manner is imperative. Realistic objectives should always be set and motives introduced for kids to achieve success in game like activities. This is the future of developing soccer players and well rounded individuals” Denver Newton Owner & Founder ESUSA

This is why at Playa Vista Mini Leagues, scores of games, league position and rankings will not be a determining factor throughout the 10 weeks of games which would have a detrimental and have a negative effect on many participants.

Rooted in Jewish values and guided by our experienced staff, we offer fun, immersive summer sessions that give your child the opportunity to develop community, teamwork, self-esteem, and individual skill.

Activities include athletics, outdoor adventure sports, music, art, dance, leadership training, and social action. Campers celebrate their best selves, form lifelong friendships, and find a community where they belong.

There are so many amazing things to do: Conquering the Alpine Tower as a team. Seeing the final point scored in Ultimate Frisbee. Dancing together on Shabbat. Singing arm-in-arm every night before bed. Hiking to the Star that overlooks camp. Making more friends in a week than they could all year.

We believe that these transformative experiences inspire kids to bring camp home to their daily lives, applying what they learn here to better themselves, their communities and the world.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We have a phenomenal group of teens applying for spaces in these eight-week programs. Spaces fill quickly on a first come, first served basis, and require an intensive application process. Apply as early as possible! Info: 415.392.7080 or CampNewman[AT]urj.org.

Avodah
11th Grade

Avodah is a multifaceted, service-based program in which campers play an integral role in camp’s day-to-day operations. Avodahniks develop a strong work ethic and serve as Jewish role models at camp. Beyond daily activities, campers work diligently on a significant camp improvement project and march as a team in both the annual Pride Parade and AIDS Walk in San Francisco.

Counselor in Training (CIT)
12th Grade

Our highly-selective and popular CIT program trains our future staff and camp leadership, offering young adults a valuable personal and professional growth opportunity. Leadership workshops and Judaic programs are combined with practical hands-on training with children of all ages.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: A lot has been written about the incredible power of Jewish Camp. A summer at Newman is an amazing experience, one that has lifelong benefits for the child, and meaningful reverberations that positively impact families, congregations & communities. To read more about the power of camp, click here.

In difficult financial times, some families choose to forgo camp. But they shouldn’t! No one should have to miss the powerful and transformative power of camp because of the state of the economy or personal finances. Our hope is that everyone who wants to attend camp, can do so.

Thankfully, there are lots of resources available. For more info, visit: Our Camp Website Link: campnewman.org

Our camps and programs are offered locally throughout over 500 communities. The format includes traditional week-long summer day camps and year-round after-school programs that range from 45 minutes to 6 hours in duration, per day. Our progression of camps and programs, led by our expert staff, are generated toward youth looking for a sport introduction or those who want to refine and master their sport-specific skills.

For Detailed Information on ALL of our summer sports camps, please visit our website at Our Camp Website Link: www.skyhawks.com.

Our coaches and site directors make a significant difference to your childs on-field experience. Chosen for their strong personal character, responsibility, and capacity to effectively communicate sports skills to youth, our staff will make the extra effort every time to ensure that your children have the best on-field/court experience, emphasize teamwork, and learn life skills through sports. Our staff are required to complete our extensive certification process.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Skyhawks Sports Camps are SAFETY FOCUSED!

At Skyhawks we go the extra mile to focus on safety, and we have a long-standing proven safety track record and processes to prove it. For example, all Skyhawks Sports camps start and end with our unique safety process called Gate System and Parking Lot Duty. This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.

Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harms way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.
