Whether they want to perform, create sets or costumes or be a counselor-in-training, we’ve got something for everyone. Campers can learn about all aspects of musical theater while also building confidence and self-esteem – all levels of experience or no experience at all are welcome! And it’s not just theater; afternoons are filled with fun activities including swimming every day in the indoor Olympic-sized pool, outdoor and indoor games, contests and more!

Theater Camp at MCC is held on the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center on campus in an air-conditioned, comfortable and clean environment. Our camp is supervised by New Jersey Teachers with combined experience of over 50 years in teaching and children’s theater so you can be sure your child is cared for with an experienced and dedicated staff. And most of our camp counselors were campers themselves; many have grown up in the program and had so much fun they didn’t want to leave! We are also very proud that our camp is a welcoming place where all campers feel accepted and form life-lasting friendships – the majority of our campers return year after year – a testament to our successful programming and professional staff. We focus on building self-esteem and confidence, teaching by our motto, "When you try your best, you can do ANYTHING!". By the end of the summer our kids know they really can do ANYTHING!

Theater Camp at MCC was honored by the New Jersey Senate, General Assembly and Middlesex County Freeholders for artistic excellence and over 25 years of service to children in Middlesex County.

Seven Performances Give All Kids a Chance to Shine!
During the first six weeks, campers will produce an elaborate musical production each week. Weeks 7 & 8 are reserved for the annual “Broadway Spectacular”. Roles are provided for all campers. Campers rehearse Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 12 noon and perform their musical productions twice every Friday morning on the Main Stage of the MCC Performing Arts Center. Fridays’ shows are at 9:30 am and 11:00 am. See our website for the full show schedule, This Website Link

Theater Camp is More Than Just Theater!
After a lunch break, our afternoons are filled with tons of fun activities, including swimming every day, scavenger hunt, tie dye, charades, sing down, relay races, carnival, Mardi Gras, outdoor games, theatrical workshops, dances and MORE! Then during our last week of the summer we divide campers into two teams for Color War!

Fantastic Fridays.
Fridays are truly fantastic at Theater Camp! First, our campers perform for a packed audience on the Main Stage of the MCC Performing Arts Center. Two shows are held every Friday; at 9:30 am and 11 am. After lunch and a quick dip in the pool, there's always a fun-filled cast party to celebrate the performance and cap off the week’s activities. Cast parties are complete with current music, lights, group dances and contests with fabulous prizes. And each week the cast party is themed, such as rock star day, Halloween dance, pajama party, dress as your favorite superhero, beach bash party and Theater Camp prom. It all adds up to a summer full of excitement and fun.

Camp Trip to Broadway! (Session III only)
For full-day campers, Session III provides a chance to experience the magic of seeing a professional show in NYC; some for the very first time. Theater Campers will take a field trip during Session III to see a brand Broadway show - CHARLIE and the CHOCOLATE FACTORY!

We also have two additional options for kids 12-16; Tech and Teens Scenes

Tech Option for Ages 12 - 14 (Available Sessions I & II only).
Instead of rehearsing and performing in the weekly shows, we also offer campers in 7th, 8th and 9th grades the option to participate in “Tech”. From 9 am to 12 noon, Tech campers build sets, paint scenery, organize props, and sew and design costumes. During performances, Tech campers function as the stage crew, making sure that sets, scenery, props and costumes are in place. This is an option that requires maturity and the ability to follow direction – perfect for learning what a crew does to make each theatrical performance a success.

Teen Scenes Option for 8th, 9th & 10th Graders (Available Sessions I & II only).
In Teen Scenes, participating kids have the opportunity to learn more advanced theater and acting techniques and prepare a special teen production. The show may consist of monologues, scenes, songs or a complete drama, comedy or musical that features all teens who want to participate. At the end of each 3-week Session (Session I and Session 2), the “Teen Scene” show is performed for parents, community members and all Theater Campers. Also during each of the regular Friday performances, those in Teens Scenes will act as ushers and theater managers, giving them the opportunity to develop new skills. We expect all teens that are privileged to participate in this special program to adhere to the program rules and be ready to work each and every day.

Check out our website for an example of our daily schedule: This Website Link

Camp SAY was established with one goal in mind – to provide children who stutter with a highly immersive and accepting summer camp experience that builds self-confidence and helps children develop the vital communication skills they need to fully express themselves without fear, bullying or ridicule.

Complementing our wide range of exciting traditional camp activities, Camp SAY provides each child with unique experiences that challenge them in a safe way, creating a strong sense of achievement and helping them confidently navigate the unique issues that children who stutter face in the everyday world.

STAFF
The staff is dedicated to creating a safe and accepting environment where every child can find their beautiful and unique voice. Approximately 80% of children return to camp. Parents and campers tell us it’s our staff and unique approach that consistently exceed expectations, making Camp SAY such a rewarding and transformative experience.

We provide an excellent Staff-to-Camper Ratio: With Camp’s leadership team, camp counselors, specialized activities staff and more, our staff-to-camper ratio is 1 staff member for every 2-3 campers. In addition, each bunk is staffed at night with at least 2 counselors for an average of 6-10 campers.

Counselors complete a comprehensive training program to support the social, emotional and physical needs of all our campers. Staff development includes leadership training and extensive information about stuttering, camper health and safety, camp philosophy, policies and procedures and much more. Additionally, Specialized Activities Staff is carefully selected based on their skills and expertise. For example, a talented lifeguard with American Red Cross certification leads swimming activities and experienced horseback riding instructors have completed Certified Horsemanship Association training.

Through her work in Higher Education, she has developed and taught courses that focus on identity and community development.

At Girls Leadership we want you to be true-to-you. Every day starts with community games. Our theatre-based workshops focus on developing personal and societal leadership, such as how to ask for what you need. In these sessions girls practice new tools for speaking up for themselves and for others.

We also create beautiful art projects, stay active outside, and always have a spirit theme for the day. These activities are designed to encourage girls to embrace who they are, reflect on what they believe, and give them an opportunity to express themselves creatively.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: THE VOGELSINGER METHOD

Our goal is to create an environment—a GAME-LIKE ATMOSPHERE—through dynamic teaching and coaching by explanation, demonstration and participation to assist each player in creating a METHOD TO SELF-TEACH.

It is a painstaking STEP-BY-STEP method. We must create for you a crystal-clear picture of what we are trying to teach through demonstration and explanation. You must understand clearly and be able to picture every little detail in your MIND’S EYE. Moreover, you then have to see yourself performing it successfully, and physically feel it and emotionally experience it.

The ultimate goal of self-teaching is INTERNALIZING MOTIVATION and knowing where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there step-by-step. We say you “FAIL YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS” because with this method, mistakes become your guidelines.

You will become a BETTER PLAYER. You will become a BETTER PERSON, as you will learn how to work toward the goals that you set for yourself.

CAMP LOCATION: Trail Blazers' sleep away camp property is located in Montague, New Jersey, about five miles east of the Pennsylvania border. The camp is situated between High Point State Park and Stokes State Forest, close to the Appalachian Trail and the Delaware River.

Trail Blazers' day camp program is run in conjunction with Lefferts Gardens Montessori on Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn. Programs take place at the LGM school building and throughout Prospect Park.

CAMP FACILITIES: Sleep away campers experience life in the outdoors by living in teepees and canvas hogans in family-like small camps of 8 to 10 peers. Every small camp is equipped with canvas shelters housing up to 4 campers, running water for drinking and washing, a non-flushing latrine, and a fire circle for nightly pow wows, songs, and games. There are two centrally-located shower houses for daily hot showers, and a dining hall where breakfast and dinner are served family style.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We believe that going outside is the best way for young people to grow within. That belief has been central for 130 years of helping young people develop the values and skills essential for productive citizenship.

Since 1887, Trail Blazers has sponsored thousands of children to take part in these outdoor adventures where learning happens experientially — by living and playing together, and experiencing the challenges and opportunities the natural environment offers. Today, Trail Blazers remains the second oldest summer program in existence in the United States, and the first to offer environmental education.

As an ACA accredited camp, we insure that all staff are trained professionals in their area. We certify American Red Cross Life Guards and recruit staff from all over the country and the world with a passion for youth development and the outdoors. Each staff member undergoes a skill screening, intensive interview, reference check, and background check. Staff also complete a two-week pre-camp training course covering all aspects of the Trail Blazers program to prepare for the important job of looking after your child's physical and emotional safety.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The Leader-in-Training program at Trail Blazers is designed for current high school students who wish to develop leadership skills through active participation in different aspects of the Trail Blazers Sleep Away program. Our Leaders in Training develop problem-solving skills, teamwork, and environmental consciousness as they learn how to manage the responsibility that comes with being a role model at camp. A separate application is required for participation in this program.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Part of Trail Blazers' mission is to make camp affordable and accessible to all. As a not-for-profit, we offer extensive scholarship and financial aid. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Active Learning Services, Ltd operates enrichment programs designed to stimulate creative thinking, improve thinking, logic and memory skills and give children "thinking alternatives" to sports camps and other summer programs. Our programs include chess programs and camps thru USA Chess, Our Gamebuilder Video Game Creation Programs and our Active Learning Computer Enrichment Programs.

Our staff is, comprised of the best children's chess instructors in North America! The USA Chess camps are uniquely qualified to cater to the needs of the advanced scholastic player as well as the true beginner. USA Chess hit its first milestone in the summer of 2000 producing the largest chess camp ever held in the United States, with more than 250 students enrolled. What was most surprising, however, was the amount of absolute beginners in attendance - more than 50% of the total enrollment was just starting to play chess. This realization led to the national rollout tour of 100 camps in more than 70 cities. The annual tours have been immensely successful with several thousand campers attending this year alone.

USA Chess thrives on providing a structured environment that is extremely conducive to learning chess. We handpick the best children's chess instructors from all over the United States and bring them to each camp. We believe our team is most effective in teaching chess to children of all ages and levels. The exceptional organization and ever-fun curriculum has fueled much interest from scholastic players and coaches from around the country, prompting them to request USA Chess camps in their areas.

At the same summer camp locations, we also offer the immensely popular Gamebuilder Video Game Creation Camps, The Active Learning Computer Animation Programs, and other Computer Enrichment Programs such as Modding, Networking and Hosting with Minecraft. We now offer seven unique programs in all.

At these camps, children are assigned a computer for the week; they spend the week learning to create their own one-of- a- kind video games in our Gamebuilder Camps, Animation Projects in our Animation Camps, also Modding, Networking and Hosting with Minecraft.
