VIEW CAMP PHOTO

CAMP LOCATION: YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge is located on a spectacular tract of land in the Brushy Mountains of North Carolina located between Lenoir and North Wilkesboro just 90 minutes from Charlotte, N.C. There are more than 2,000 acres of woods, streams, and trails centered around private, 140-acre Lake Broyhill.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our 12 log cabins sleep people bunk style. All have air conditioning, heat, showers, restrooms, ceiling fans and water fountains for your comfort.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Harrison's stunning wooded campus provides all the wide open space and clean mountain air kids need to clear their minds and relax their bodies. Over half their waking hours are spent outdoors, enjoying land activities in the mornings and lakefront and water activities in the afternoons. Outside activities exert the body and the mind so campers go to bed tired and happy - but not before a few giggles break out next to the glow of campfire!

YMCA Camp Harrison provides a variety of adrenaline-pumping activities like the ropes course, mountain boarding and archery. Sometimes these activities require multiple tries to master, prompting campers to face fears head-on. The satisfied grins, exuberant fist pumps and cheers of teammates at the finish line encourage kids to try their luck at something else, face new situations with confidence, and configure solutions based on past experiences. Kids discover their competence and character when faced with adversity, and there are few feelings more satisfying than getting better at something. If you can get "big air" on the zip line, then maybe introducing yourself to a new person isn't so scary!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: For rising sophomores, the LIT experience is designed to teach leadership skills including communication, decision-making, and conflict resolution. GROW Summer Camp offers a safe space where diverse young women (ages 14-16) come together to explore themselves and support one another in developing the courage and tools to become resilient when faced with adversity and life's challenges. Graduates will learn uniquely powerful meditation and breathing techniques, as well as tools to explore a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them.

These techniques bring an awareness to their lives, allowing them to manage stress in a healthy way, bringing confidence and self reliance. This will enable the young women to step into a empowered role in their own lives and in their communities.

CURRICULUM:

Our curriculum will focus on holistically nourishing the child and exploring boundaries outside of their comfort zone. In addition to providing participants with the YES! (Youth Empowerment Seminar) powerful breathing techniques and curriculum that uplifts human values and focuses on a healthy body, mind and lifestyle, we will bring awareness and open discussion for young women to explore issues they are currently facing in their own lives around body image, as well as social and societal pressures.

SELF ACTUALIZING ACTIVITIES:

ART: We explore self-expression through artistic mediums; painting and pottery making. We bring attention to the present moment and tap into a creative part of ourselves that allows for healing and a deep learning.

NATURE: We will hike through the woods and down the mountain to a waterfall, connecting with nature and taking in all it has to offer. We will have evening campfires and share stories about life lessons over smores, building camaraderie through deep personal and authentic connection.

MUSIC: The girls will compose lyrics to a camp theme song that portray the vision they have for themselves and the world. They will have an opportunity to perform this song at the end of camp for a live audience.

HEALTH/WELLNESS: We will have a portion of the curriculum dedicated to body awareness and healthy body/mind relationships; exploring healthy eating and how to take responsibility for our own health by preparing organic homemade food. We will take a trip to the garden and explore sustainability, growing our own food and how to cook healthily by harvesting our own vegetables and then preparing the food together with cooking lessons where the girls learn how to be confident and independent in the kitchen maintaining a health conscious awareness.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Road Less Traveled as an organization was founded by Jim and Donna Stein in 1991, and has been successfully running safe, exciting, life-changing trips for teens ever since. Both Jim and Donna are still the current directors, and are integrally involved in every single aspect of the company. In the summer, they are on call 24/7, available both to parents as well as to our leaders in the field.

We are an ACA accredited organization with an impeccable track record. We believe in the process of accreditation. It allows us to compare our standards to other professionals in the industry. Our accreditation allows us to follow specific standards related to leader screening including use of application forms, reference checks, personal interviews, work history review, and background checks.

Many years ago, we were the first company serving young adults to require that all leaders have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certification. WFR training is far more advanced than standard first aid or wilderness first aid. In addition to this certification, we carry extensive first aid kits on all of our programs that include antibiotics and epinephrine. Contents, protocols, and standing orders are reviewed and updated every year by our Medical Director who is an MD.

Since our inception, RLT has been on the cutting edge of technological advances in communication. We began carrying Iridium satellite phones on all of our programs as soon as they were available. Today we continue to carry the latest in emergency communication systems. According to geographic location, programs are equipped with satellite phones, ground-to-air radios, and/or cellular phones providing the possibility of 24-hour access to medical help in case of emergency.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Being a counselor is no ordinary job and we are not looking to employ just ordinary people. When we hire staff for the summer we look for people that will form the foundation that we base our entire community on. We look for people that we believe would make strong, positive role models in the lives of our campers and be leaders and mentors within our small community.

The residential setting means that every choice you make will be observed and potentially replicated by the girls in your care. Do you feel that your behavior is role model worthy? We want counselors who are role models, but also not afraid to be silly and have fun! By applying to camp you are expressing an interest in helping children to develop in a caring, nurturing, and fun environment.

You will be giving up a great deal of privacy and comfort, working long and demanding hours, adhering to camp policies which you may find very limiting (curfews, time on, time off, lack of privacy, no smoking, no drinking alcohol, etc). We look for people who will not see this as a "setback" but rather as a "set up" for a great working environment.

If you believe that you have what it takes to lead and help shape the next generation of young women, then drop us a line or apply today.

He was also critically acclaimed and nominated for his work on Broadway as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats, Javert in Les Miserables, and Chauvelin in The Scarlett Pimpernel. Other Broadway credits include: Lennon, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Getting Away With Murder, A Christmas Carol, Rags, Barnum, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Jekyll and Hyde and the current Tony-winning revival of Pippin.

Mann's career has expanded into film including the cult favorites, A Chorus Line and Critters. He continues to thrive on television series like 30 Rock, SMASH, As the World Turns, The Dresden Files, and the highly-anticipated Wachowski Netflix project, Sense8.

Mann is the Carolyn Plemmons Phillips/Ben R. Phillips Distinguished Professor in Musical Theatre at Western Carolina University. He served as artistic director of The Lost Colony (North Carolina's long-running outdoor drama) and was the founding artistic director of the Carolina Arts Festival of the North Carolina Theatre for a decade.

Actor, singer, and dancer Charlotte d'Amboise most recently returned to the Broadway stage as Fastrada in the recent Tony-winning revival of Pippin. Previously, she could be seen as Roxie Hart in the Broadway smash Chicago after recently starring as Cassie in the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of A Chorus Line. Born in New York, Ms d'Amboise made her Broadway debut in Cats in 1983.

Ms. d'Amboises extensive Broadway credits include her Tony nominated performance in Jerome Robbins Broadway, Lola in Damn Yankees, the wife in Susan Stromans critically acclaimed Contact, and Kathy in the Roundabouts revival of Company. The original Broadway productions of Carrie, Sing and Dance, and Claudine in the City Centers encore presentation of Can-Can among her other Broadway credits.

In the spring of 2005, Ms. d'Amboise replaced an injured Christina Applegate in the pre-Broadway and Broadway revival of Sweet Charity. Once Applegate returned, d'Amboise remained as her standby while simultaneously performing the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago.

She has received the Astaire award for achievement in dance for her performance in Damn Yankees, Sweet Charity, and Chicago, the Bay Area Theatre Circle Award for Chicago, the L.A. Ovation award for leading actress in a musical for Chicago, the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circles Award for leading performance in Chicago, and the Astaire award for Chicago and Sweet Charity.

D'Amboise's film credits include The In Crowd; American Blue Note; Just Off The Coast; and The Preachers Wife. On television she has appeared in the Kennedy Center Honors, Law and Order, a videotaped performance of the Broadway musical Contact, and made-for-TV movies.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC, our camps are designed for individual attention, maximum fun, and the safety of each child. We facilitate camper growth by offering a Christian camp program that has been around for 130 combined years. Camp Ridgecrest for Boys and Camp Crestridge for Girls each offer 25+ activities taught by solid Christian role models. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Available to 17 year olds at Camp Ridgecrest for Boys. The SALT Program is for former campers or those new to camp who wish to be part of camp life, but more importantly seek to develop leadership, service, and discipleship abilities. SALT participants live together under the supervision of a director who is typically upperclassmen in college or a college graduate. Spaces are limited to 7-10 per session. Sessions last 4 weeks. The cost of the program is $800 (a quarter of what it would cost as a camper). This money goes back into the SALT program to pay for their trips, entertainment and basic needs in order to increase the quality of their time and training while at camp. The SALT program has three main components: service, discipleship, and fellowship. The camp administration sees this as a vital part of developing the long-term leadership of Camp Ridgecrest and beyond. SALT positions are typically given by Christmas.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Limited Scholarships are available. E-mail rscamps[AT]ridgecrestcamps.com to receive a Scholarship Application.

South Mountain Christian Camp is a Top Summer Camp located in Bostic North Carolina offering many fun and educational camp activities, including: Team Sports, Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics and more. South Mountain Christian Camp is a top camp for ages: 7-15.
VIEW CAMP PHOTO

CAMP LOCATION: We are located on 260 acres of land in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have lodging for up to 180 people, a full-service cafeteria, swimming pool, lake for boating, fishing pond, hiking trails, full-size gym, game room, and multiple indoor and outdoor meeting spaces.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our Summer Camp programs are designed as one-week residential camps for boys and girls ages 7-15. We offer six different weeks of camp, but it’s the same program, and all ages can come each week. The campers come to camp on Sunday afternoon and stay until Friday evening. They are assigned to a cabin group based on their age. Each cabin group will have 6-8 campers and one summer staff member called a Cabin Director. The Cabin Director stays in the cabin with the campers and provides leadership and supervision for that cabin group throughout the week.

Activities offered at our camp include hiking, swimming, boating, sports, crafts, games, teambuilding activities, rock climbing wall, and more. Additionally, older campers will have the opportunity to do our high ropes course, and younger campers will have a chance to visit a petting farm neighboring the camp.

Safety of our campers is top priority. We have trained lifeguards on duty for all waterfront activities, and all campers are required to wear life jackets while boating. During swim times, campers must remain in the shallow end of the pool unless they can demonstrate swimming proficiency by passing a swim test administered by the lifeguards.

Our Cabin Directors are hired through a diligent screening process. All Cabin Directors must complete a thorough job application and interview. We check several references and run a national criminal background history check on each applicant. Once hired, they undergo extensive, week-long training including certification in First Aid and CPR before they are put in charge of a group of campers.

It is our aim at South Mountain Christian Camp to nurture the faith of each of our campers. We do this through nightly chapel services which use creative teaching methods like skits, object lessons, and activities to teach campers what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Additionally, each cabin group will have a short Bible devotional time each morning while they are at camp.

At the end of the week, we have a baptism service for any camper who has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives and wishes to participate in the baptism service here. We never try to talk a camper into being baptized, and we make every effort to check with parents before allowing a camper to do so. However, when we are unable to reach parents by phone, we allow campers to use their best discretion when considering how their parents would feel about them being baptized at camp. For this reason, parents are encouraged to discuss this topic with campers prior to their week of camp so that they can understand and respect the parents' wishes.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Financial Assistance program available for any in need.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: S.E.E.D.S.-Nature programs for school groups

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
We are currently looking to fill 16 Cabin Director (typically Camp Counselor) positions. Employment is for 7 weeks. We will have one week of staff training followed by six, one-week camping sessions.

The Cabin Director’s job is to provide leadership and supervision for their cabin group (6-8 campers) and to lead them in games and activities. The Cabin Director position is a ministry opportunity. Cabin Directors build relationships with their campers and provide spiritual guidance for them. They lead cabin devotionals each morning and are available after chapel each night to pray with campers. All Cabin Directors will have 1 ½ days off each week (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon). During time off, they are free to leave Camp or stay on the grounds if they so choose.

This year, employment will begin on June 14th. The last day of work will be August 3rd.

SOAR's programs are designed to allow students the opportunity to increase their independence while away from home. Independence is gained through self-motivation and life skills instruction. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Camp Pinnacle, our small, personal size and carefully designed program means that in just two weeks your child can accomplish more than you ever expected! But first, Camp Pinnacle is all about fun and friends. Kids have an absolute blast here, but while they are having the time of their life, something else is happening. We are helping you raise a caring, confident, and independent child equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.

We begin by escaping the digital age and replacing it with a stunning mountain campus where a child finds adventure and new friends around every corner. At camp, children can try over 30 exciting activities. Then we add our age-appropriate Venture Programs where every camper gets out of camp and explores the incredible mountain scenery of western North Carolina. There is so much to see and do and so much fun to have, that kids rarely even miss home... or their electronics.
