Invite your manager (or Mom and Dad) to the final class to see you "putting it together" in an off-Broadway PREMIERE created just for you!

Theatre Arts Camps

If you like making up shows with your friends, these are the camps for you! Every day is about choosing characters, creating stories, playing theatre games and rehearsing a show! We also make time for outside play at the playground, snack time, crafts for scenery or props, and sharing. Then, on the last day, it’s time for the BIG SHOW for family and friends!

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The Hi-Liners Musical Theatre offers winter, spring, and summer musical theatre productions for actors ages 7 to 18, a fall MainStage production for actors ages 9 to 22, weekly classes during the school year, camps, and regular fun events for the whole family. Our camps and programs are offered locally throughout over 500 communities. The format includes traditional week-long summer day camps and year-round after-school programs that range from 45 minutes to 6 hours in duration, per day. Our progression of camps and programs, led by our expert staff, are generated toward youth looking for a sport introduction or those who want to refine and master their sport-specific skills.

For Detailed Information on ALL of our summer sports camps, please visit our website at Our Camp Website Link: www.skyhawks.com.

Our coaches and site directors make a significant difference to your childs on-field experience. Chosen for their strong personal character, responsibility, and capacity to effectively communicate sports skills to youth, our staff will make the extra effort every time to ensure that your children have the best on-field/court experience, emphasize teamwork, and learn life skills through sports. Our staff are required to complete our extensive certification process.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Skyhawks Sports Camps are SAFETY FOCUSED!

At Skyhawks we go the extra mile to focus on safety, and we have a long-standing proven safety track record and processes to prove it. For example, all Skyhawks Sports camps start and end with our unique safety process called Gate System and Parking Lot Duty. This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.

Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harms way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.

The bulk of our activities take place outdoors - on the Waterfront, in the Challenge Course, the Archery range, Craft Shop porch or out in the woods exploring our property.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our program is based on creating a community living and learning situation for camper units of the same age or grade. Campers learn to cooperate with and support other members of their peer group, while moving through our program areas as a unit. All of our staff go through a two-week staff training together, preparing program areas, practicing safety procedures, working with equipment and attending important sessions covering topics from working with children to bullying and child-abuse prevention.

Each camper unit has two unit leaders who attend all activities with that unit and provide support for each camper while facilitating team building and group bonding. These unit leaders are in addition to our program teaching staff, allowing our staff:camper ratio to be at least 1:5. Units are schedule to participate in activities week by week, including drama, archery, nature, adobe oven, garden, high and low ropes course elements, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and an endless amount crafts activities.

In addition to our daily programs, all camper units go on overnight camping trips once per week, and beginning at age 13 participate in multi-day outcamp trips. Both Jim and Donna are still the current directors, and are integrally involved in every single aspect of the company. In the summer, they are on call 24/7, available both to parents as well as to our leaders in the field.

We are an ACA accredited organization with an impeccable track record. We believe in the process of accreditation. It allows us to compare our standards to other professionals in the industry. Our accreditation allows us to follow specific standards related to leader screening including use of application forms, reference checks, personal interviews, work history review, and background checks.

Many years ago, we were the first company serving young adults to require that all leaders have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certification. WFR training is far more advanced than standard first aid or wilderness first aid. In addition to this certification, we carry extensive first aid kits on all of our programs that include antibiotics and epinephrine. Contents, protocols, and standing orders are reviewed and updated every year by our Medical Director who is an MD.

Since our inception, RLT has been on the cutting edge of technological advances in communication. We began carrying Iridium satellite phones on all of our programs as soon as they were available. Today we continue to carry the latest in emergency communication systems. According to geographic location, programs are equipped with satellite phones, ground-to-air radios, and/or cellular phones providing the possibility of 24-hour access to medical help in case of emergency.

VIEW CAMP PHOTO

CAMP LOCATION: We are located on the campus of The Madeira School, overlooking the Potomac River. On Thursday nights, we camp out at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA.

Daily transportation is provided by our fleet of purple buses, with stops at Bailey's Crossroads, Yorktown High School, West Falls Church metro, Dulles Town Center, Reston's Plaza America, Wolftrap, Friendship Heights metro, McLean Shopping Center, Forest Glen metro, and Pyle Middle School.

CAMP FACILITIES: Camp takes place outside, with a break for lunch overlooking the river. Indoor classrooms are available as rain/heat spaces. Thursday night campouts take place at a local lakeside campsite; we pitch tents and cook over a fire. Performances take place in a variety of theaters, camps, schools, and other venues, culminating in a final performance festival in our own amphitheater.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Traveling Players Ensemble’s camp, small troupes of actors are carefully guided by professional theatre artists to perform in outdoor amphitheaters. Our program reflects the origins of theatre, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art. Each session culminates in a fully mounted and designed performance which tours to several locations, thereby cultivating stronger, more adaptable and capable artists and individuals.

Traveling Players emphasizes a meaningful engagement with nature. Our unique day camp (Monday-Friday) features a campout every Thursday—when performers learn Leave No Trace camping techniques, to pitch tents and cook outdoors. In their final week, teens camp out close to their performance site—giving them the experience of wandering entertainers who carry their dinner, tent and props in their trusty pack. As artists and backpackers, campers learn self-reliance and creative problem solving, and gain an appreciation of challenges and beauty.

Founding Artistic Director Jeanne Harrison has taught for The Folger Shakespeare Library, Catholic University, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Loyola University (MD), The Chapin School (NYC) and Interlochen Center for the Arts (MI), where she directed the Shakespeare program. Jeanne has worked in camping for 28 years, directed two other camps, is a certified Camp Director (American Camping Association), Wilderness First Responder (SOLO), and an Instructor with the American Red Cross. Jeanne has also served as a judge for the Helen Hayes Awards.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Traveling Players Ensemble offers need-based scholarships for all programs, with awards up to 100% of tuition, and no yearly or lifetime cap on awards. Please visit our scholarships page for more information.

Our staff strives to make sure that each child feels special and comes away with the values and experiences that they may treasure for a lifetime.

 24 modern cabins (each sleeps 10 12)
 Full meal service available
 Multipurpose lodge
 Hiking trails
 Archery
 Meeting areas
 Commercial kitchen
 Climbing tower

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: A campers time at camp is divided between unit time, cabin activities, free-choice time and all-camp events. Each day we have flagpole gatherings, chapel, waterfront activities, cabin clean up, work areas and siesta after lunch. Day and night hikes are extremely popular.

Once a week, weather permitting, each cabin joins with another for a sleep-out. This often includes a long hike (1 7 miles) and a night out under the stars. Younger cabins stay close to camp, while older campers explore further away from camp. Backpacks or bags to carry sleeping bags and water bottles are helpful. The two oldest cabins may have the opportunity to bike about 30 miles from camp for their overnight.

We have three campfires with songs and crazy staff skits with a special sticks campfire on the last evening. One night is reserved for a carnival and a camp dance. These events conclude around 9:30pm, and lights are out between 10:30 and 11:30pm. Wake up bell is at 8:30am.

Free-choice activities include arts & crafts, archery, climbing, sports, waterfront and wilderness activities. We also offer plenty of new and unique activities each day such as turtle hunts, random parades, stream hikes, boat races and a Shark Swim across the lake. This is a great time for campers to be with friends in different cabins.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The Camp Reed Counselor in Training (CIT) two-week program is designed for 15 & 16 year olds that will be entering their sophomore year of high school in Fall 2014. This very popular two week program consists of a Work Week and a Bike Trip. It is designed to provide a comprehensive youth experience where each individual is encouraged to reach his/her full potential.

The philosophy behind the Camp Reed CIT program is founded in an outdoor experience where the participant is challenged physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. It is fun, challenging and life changing!

CIT Leaders are experienced and mature Camp Reed staff who utilize group dynamics to encourage each participant to learn more about themselves and others in the group. They have the opportunity to work as a team as well as to practice leadership and group dynamic skills. This philosophy is the key to maintaining focus throughout the programs entirety.

In order for the CIT program to accomplish its objective, each participant will be held to a high level of commitment and maturity. The CIT program is a transition for participants from camper to young adult. Expectations are higher in areas of personal responsibility, maturity and accountability. CIT Leaders will therefore treat CITs more like young adults than campers.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Camperships are available for any Camp Reed program - Mini Camp, Traditional Camp, CIT, and JC programs. We advise you to complete the campership process before registering your child for camp, as camperships are not guaranteed. For the complete process, visit: Our Camp Website Link: campreed.org

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Camp Reed Family Camp is a great opportunity to bring the generations of your family together for fun, adventure and memories to last a lifetime. Activities are run by Camp Reed staff but parents are responsible for supervising their children.
