CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Alaska Dance Theatre (ADT), founded in 1981, is the premiere nonprofit dance organization in Alaska. Its mission is to promote dance through professional education, performance and advocacy in Alaska and to provide a recognized artistic element within the dance community for local and visiting artists to expand their creative talent while nurturing discipline, confidence, fitness and the experience of movement. Believing that dance is for everyone, Alaska Dance Theatre strives to keep its programs affordable to a wide range of the population.
The School is based on classical ballet with a syllabus reflecting a blend of Vaganova, Checchetti, and other Classical Ballet techniques, as well as a variety of contemporary dance styles. Classes are offered for students age 3 through adult who enjoy dance as well as those who would like to pursue a career in the field. ADT School Faculty and School Director assign appropriate placement of all the students. Our accompanist program provides live piano music for many ballet classes. Workshops with guest teachers and residencies with professional dance companies are offered throughout the season
The School of Alaska Dance Theatre instructors endeavor to help all students learn dance technique through careful attention to proper alignment as well as anatomical differences and physiological conditions. Pedagogy is introduced at a pace matching the student’s ability to physically and mentally absorb the challenge of more strenuous activity. Students and parents should be reminded that dance is an artistic and athletic skill. Class curriculum is based on a nine-month academic year. Placement beyond introductory classes is dependent upon successful mastery of skills in previous classes’ curriculum, age and placement audition for upper levels.

This is a time to step outside of yourself, to do more and be more.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: For thirty years, VISIONS has set the standard for domestic and international community service programs for high school and middle school students. We strongly believe that collaborative service work and cross-cultural living help our teen volunteers understand a complicated world and learn meaningful ways to contribute productively.
VISIONS collaborates with local nonprofits and makes long-term commitments in our communities. We have worked in most locations for more than 15 years, and in some places for more than 20 years. You typically get to choose from three different worksites during the week, and work until mid-afternoon. Our community service projects are a way we thank the local friends who welcome us into their lives.
Cultural learning and friendship are core to VISIONS. You experience the culture in a way that is unique from being a tourist. You share common goals and work with local people to achieve those goals. You may be surprised by what you have in common with people whose lives are so different from your own.
All of our summer leaders are CPR and First Aid certification and undergo extensive training at the Montana homebase before departing to the program location. All leaders have reference and background checks, extensive training, and first aid certifications at minimum. Our exceptional instructor role models take a sincere interest in the growth and development of young people. We inspire young people to develop a lifetime love of the outdoors and with a corresponding conservation ethic. We empower students to create an inclusive and reflective community that maintains a culture of kindness, sense of humor, and spirit of cooperation and volunteerism. We strive to be a sustainable and responsive business, with a focus on our families and the quality of our programs. We form long-term relationships with our students, their families, instructors, staff, and outfitters.
