CAMP FACILITIES: Facilities and accommodations vary from trip to trip.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Road Less Traveled as an organization was founded by Jim and Donna Stein in 1991, and has been successfully running safe, exciting, life-changing trips for teens ever since. Both Jim and Donna are still the current directors, and are integrally involved in every single aspect of the company. In the summer, they are on call 24/7, available both to parents as well as to our leaders in the field.
We are an ACA accredited organization with an impeccable track record. We believe in the process of accreditation. It allows us to compare our standards to other professionals in the industry. Our accreditation allows us to follow specific standards related to leader screening including use of application forms, reference checks, personal interviews, work history review, and background checks.
Many years ago, we were the first company serving young adults to require that all leaders have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certification. WFR training is far more advanced than standard first aid or wilderness first aid. In addition to this certification, we carry extensive first aid kits on all of our programs that include antibiotics and epinephrine. Contents, protocols, and standing orders are reviewed and updated every year by our Medical Director who is an MD.
Since our inception, RLT has been on the cutting edge of technological advances in communication. We began carrying Iridium satellite phones on all of our programs as soon as they were available. Today we continue to carry the latest in emergency communication systems. According to geographic location, programs are equipped with satellite phones, ground-to-air radios, and/or cellular phones providing the possibility of 24-hour access to medical help in case of emergency.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Debate Camp has provided summer programming in debate, public speaking and Model United Nations simulation since 2002. Built by experienced educators, we believe in providing an academic enrichment opportunity to youth across Canada and the Northeastern United States via a set of exceptionally well-organized, safe and accredited summer camps. At Debate Camp, we provide a fun and inspiring space for youth to develop some timelessly-important skills; to hear opposing views and to confidently articulate their ideas well in the company of others.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Academics, and more. Public Speaking & Debate
CAMP LOCATION: Debate Camp sets up in academic spaces that allow for a healthy mix of indoor and outdoor activity. Camps are located at independent schools / universities throughout Northeastern US and across Canada - full view at:

CAMP FACILITIES: Day Camps operate at independent schools; indoor-outdoor programming, safe accredited, inspected and well-supervised spaces. OVERNIGHT CAMP 2022 is 7 day / 6 night traditional camp experience in the beautiful Niagara Peninsula region of Ontario; Our Camp Website Link: www.debatecamp.com
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Debate Camp creates a learning experience that is safe, welcoming, fun, and intellectually-engaging. Our program is meant to appeal to all ability levels, from the reluctant speaker to the already-accomplished debater.
We believe that learning is best served by engaging students in an academic experience, while at the same time ensuring they feel empowered to take risks.
We believe that "camp" creates a novel and secure learning environment in which campers feel safe to try new skills, think on their feet, see the opposing view, and to trust their teammates. Campers repeatedly inform us of how successful their academic experiences are - after Debate Camp, largely because they felt emboldened and confident in their ability to engage in discourse on subjects they felt unsure about only weeks previous. " I learned so much" is the most consistent feedback we get.
We feel that debating is not an elite skill for competition purposes only. Nor is it something that should be oversold / overcharged for the purpose of enhancing the college application process. We believe that to have advocacy skills, an ability with rhetoric, an ability to effectively organize one's thoughts, an ability to listen and be heard and to honour one's opponents with effective points and counter-points, are skills that all kids should develop.
As such, we annually review our fee scale to ensure we remain within reach of as many families as possible. We continue to work on funding and recruitment structures so that we may continue to remove barriers to enrichment education.
Moreover, we remain about training in the area of verbal advocacy; to stand, speak and be heard - an area requiring continued attention at a time when digital means provide so many alternatives to this. In the generation of the smart phone, of potentially less human-to-human conversation over substantial matters, what we teach is even more coveted...
Education has forever operated on a belief in the skills, ability and good intention of the future generation. Debate Camp is honoured to be invested in this work.
AMERICAN CAMPING ASSOCIATION
Debate Camp successfully completed the ACA 18 month accreditation process in 2021. This process included a thorough documentation and policy review of Debate Camp's Operation Manual and training materials. In 2021, an ACA site visitor visited in-person camp locations to observe camp operations and ensure the highest of facility standards at two of our American Debate Camp locations (as exemplars of our program in all regions)
CANADIAN CAMPING ASSOCIATION
Debate Camp in 2020 was awarded with accreditation status from the provincial division of the CCA - Camping Association of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island [CANSPEI] . This 24 month process, ensured that all operating standards, including overnight camps in Canada are compliant with the highest operating standards; inclusive of an audit of our mission and values.

Your schedule will be all ready to go when you get to camp, full of six activities from your top ten list! After the first week at camp, you will sign up for the next week's activities. You may choose to stay with the same activities or try some different ones. The same is true for week three. We want you to go as far as you would like in an activity, but also be exposed to lots of new activities. If you don't see a particular activity you are looking for, don't worry! We probably offer it during Daily Choice.
Daily Choice gives you the chance to try something new every single day! During Daily Choice, you can try activities that are on the regular schedule (it's kind of like a "taste-test!") or you can sign up for something completely different, like Extreme Bocce, Ultimate Frisbee, or Magic Tricks. Another fun time is Evening Activity, where you and your bunkmates will participate together in an all-camp event or an organized activity just for you! It's a great opportunity for bunk bonding and exposure to different areas of camp. You can read more about our activities on our Program page.

Each camper group will go through at least five different scheduled activities every day during their session with each day ending with a different evening activity that will range from small group (cabin) activities to all camp events and celebrations. Through these every day programs as well as special/theme days and events we strive to provide a well-rounded experience for each of our campers that is fun and meaningful.
Teen Advancement Program (TAP) is a unique opportunity that offers more advanced programming and growth opportunities for our older campers. It is for those campers who are 14+ years old. It is an intentional two-week program focused on teen leadership skills development and community service. The first week of the session will focus on various leadership topics and skills like: group building, goal setting, teamwork, tolerance and compromise, integrity, role modeling, community service, etc. The second week will focus on service and learning projects. Campers in this program will also enjoy more responsibility and choice in the traditional A.V. camp experiences like swimming, canoeing, dance, sports, evening and other activities as part of the overall Agassiz Village community. The goal of this program is to raise our camper self-identity and awareness and develop specific leadership skills and values through purposeful experiential education to fulfill our mission: Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders!
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Internship for Staff Training, Education, and Placement (INSTEP) is a 4-week, tuition free program for a select group of 16-17 year old teens seeking hands-on leadership skills development and potential future employment with Agassiz. Each candidate is required to apply for the position and is interviewed prior to their selection. Two weeks of training focus on general leadership and job skills development. During these weeks participants engage in a set of hands-on workshops on teamwork, group forming and dynamics, conflict management skills, leadership styles, and career and college workshops. Additionally, they actively participate and lead various activities.
We will also have a college admissions officer from University of Southern Maine do a ‘Dean For A Day’ workshop. This interactive workshop focuses on college application importance and assessment by looking at a number of actual applications and discussing their strong and weak points. This provides an opportunity for the 16-17 year old participants to look at the realities of college applications and what they need to start focusing on in order to successfully get into the college of their choice. The other two weeks participants work as Jr. Counselors and program assistants.
As Jr. Counselors they assist a Agassiz Cabin Counselor with the day-to-day activities of a cabin group and live together with the group for a week. All participants who successfully complete the program will receive a scholarship, the amount based on their performance, to be used to further their education and leadership opportunities.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Financial aid available to all through sliding scale financial aid rates (posted on our website). Session rates start at $125 and depend on family's annual income and household size.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In 1999, I was directing science camps for the Children’s Museum of Maine and had taught science at Scarborough Middle School and Westbrook College and was (and still am) a docent at the Portland Museum of Art. I told my family I wanted to create experiences for children that melded my love of science with my passion for art. My husband replied: “Science and art—sounds like Leonardo DaVinci!” Certified teachers collaborated
with me to develop a science and arts curriculum with theme-based programs and The DaVinci Experience was born!
At DaVinci Experience camps, whether it’s dinosaurs, drawing or building catapults, your children will follow their passions or discover new ones. They’ll make friends with children who may attend their local school or be visiting from another state or country. Campers will find mentors who inspire them to try new things and they’ll have the opportunity to explore new themes each week.
Mature, experienced teachers lead small groups of similar aged campers. Our low camper to staff ratio allows your children to fully participate in hands-on science activities, art projects and outdoor games. Their experiences are enriched by meeting guests from the community, as diverse as doctors and veterinarians to dancers and African drummers.
At DaVinci Experience we are building an inclusive community of learners and we would love to have your family join us!

CAMP FACILITIES: At 200 feet, the Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years. It is the largest civilian sail training vessel in America. She has berths for 49 people overnight, and with 17 crew, a low camper to crew ratio creates a safe and fun environment. The ship is equipped with a steel hull, 3 masts, with square sails on all three masts, 20 sails totaling 14,000 square feet, and 7 miles of rope and wire. The engines run on a bio-diesel blend, and the ship is equipped with a modern galley (on-board kitchen), central air, an on-deck science lab, a library and wheel-chair accessibility above and below decks.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: With 17 professional crew and a capacity for 30-34 campers, our program promotes a dynamic and safe learning environment with a 2:1 ratio of campers to instructors. Campers will feel the thrill of steering a 500-ton ship, and learn to work the yards and sails while exploring the beautiful coasts of New England. They will learn safety at sea and perform important safety drills while acquiring skills in navigation, seamanship, sail handling, knots, and the language of the boat. Campers will explore the underwater world through snorkeling. They will understand wind, waves, tides and the ecology of sandy and rocky seashores. Sunsets, sunrises and the night sky will serve as the backdrop for this incredible experience, in addition to marine phosphorescence, dolphins and whales. Teamwork is an integral part of success onboard the boat, and in addition to learning about themselves, and achieving things they never imagined, they will make friendships to last a lifetime.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: In addition to witnessing the natural magic of the ocean and its inhabitants, each student crew will make friendships to last a lifetime. Campers will take responsibility for themselves and their fellow shipmates, learning to work as a team with others as they hoist and brace the yards on the ship's 130-foot tall rig and apply acquired navigational skills to guide the ship's course on a voyage of discovery.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: As a non-profit organization we are committed to making this amazing experience available to everyone. Because we are new, an endowment for scholarships is still being developed, however the first 10 sign ups will receive a 10% discount! Please contact us for group discounts. Scholarships will be made available in the near future.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The Perry will sail year-round, offering experiences for high school and college age students, as well as adult sail-training and team building. The ship will spend the Summers in New England and the Winters in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

We know that campers will have tons of fun, learn wonderful skills in their activities, and make lifelong friends. But above all, we know that it is at Tapawingo where they will learn how to be leaders, how to be true friends, and how to be themselves. Tapawingo is a safe place for the development of character and values: judgment, personal responsibility, and independence.
We provide encouragement, encouragement and more encouragement – to assure that each girl develops independence and self-confidence. We do not award trophies for the best athlete or best camper. Any camper may sign up to be on a Tapawingo team; she does not need to try out. We are a cheering and singing kind of place, where a child strives to do her very best.
Tapawingo’s call for fun and adventure is contagious – between 80 and 90 percent of our kids come back to Tapawingo, year after year, and many bring their friends. Tradition is a cornerstone of our camp. Many Tapawingo campers are second-generation campers, and some are third.

Boys live in cosy whitewashed cabins where cooperation is key. Our motto, "Help The Other Fellow," becomes a way of life for all.
Birch Rock provides a nurturing place where boys can truly enjoy boyhood, disconnect from the electronic world, and reconnect to the natural wonders of life.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Birch Rock Community is distinguished by the many campers and counselors (3 to 1 ratio) who return each year, and even for decades. Birch Rockers are committed to being the finest mentors and passing on our values and cherished traditions to generations of campers to come.
Birch Rock celebrates the character development of its campers. Our motto Help the Other Fellow is the foundation of our community.
Birch Rock's mission is to build self-confidence and character in its boys.
A proud and accredited member of the American Camp Association and active partner with Maine Summer Camps.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Birch Rock’s Senior Camper and Counselor-In-Training programs provide opportunities for a selective group of young gentlemen to contribute to the positive growth and development of the camp community and cultivation of future leadership. Each summer, we accept individuals who demonstrate promise, champion civility, and have a sincere passion for the values of building community.
A Senior Camper (ages 15-16) typically returns to Birch Rock eager for a summer experience with a capstone of advanced achievement in one or two activities – i.e. swimming the Whale, a mastery in primitive skill development or target sports, or any activity he wishes to achieve with exceptional excellence. Additionally, he and his peers work together in mentoring younger campers who are new to Birch Rock and need a “BRC Buddy” to help adjust to residential camping. Senior Campers are learning to lead and are the ultimate role-models of the camp. They provide community service inside and outside of the camp, lead by example in terms of daily chores – i.e. inspection, table set-up, servicing at meal time, and all camp activity events.
A Counselor-In-Training, CIT (age 17) is still classified as a camper, but has limited apprentice-leadership roles working with children. A CIT will experience a variety of life-long learning skill sets including: fostering his communication skills, conflict resolution, time management and learning when you need to ask for additional support. CITs receive specific training and certification in basic first-aid, CPR, American Red Cross Lifeguarding, fundamental counseling skills in cabin management and activity skill planning. Successful CIT candidates often become Birch Rock Camp’s strongest counselors because they have demonstrated the genuine passion to give back to the community, and make their own mark in support of our motto: Help the Other Fellow. Moreover, CITs develop life skills of parenting, team-work, listening and helping themselves and each other to feel more confident and comfortable as future camp leaders.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our facilities are modern yet not flashy. Campers live in one of 34 comfortable screened cabins. The younger boys generally have 6 boys and 2 counselors in a cabin while the majority of boys have 4 or 5 campers and 1 counselor per cabin. There is no shortage of places to go and explore at camp. We have more than 65 buildings and campers easily find what interests them.
Many of the activities including Photography (outfitted with a fully-equipped darkroom), Nature, Arts & Crafts, and Video are housed in their own buildings. We also have our own radio station and a wonderful theater. Several large buildings allow for the entire camp to convene, and we even have a Ping Pong building where boys can play in their free time.
Meals are enjoyed in our spacious dining hall, one of the original camp buildings, which features a lofted ceiling and fieldstone fireplace. Our athletic facilities are top-notch. We have more fields than we can use at one time and count 7 Har-Tru tennis courts, 3 softball/baseball diamonds, 2 basketball courts, 2 soccer fields, a clay and a beach volleyball court, and a sprawling low and high ropes course.
Our waterfront features a beach area where boys can play, a shallow water area for teaching beginner swimmers, a six-lane floating pool built into the lake, a deep water area with a high dive and waterslide, and a separate dock system that accommodates our sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing and waterskiing programs.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Winnebago walks a fine line between creating a competitive atmosphere and understanding that success lies in the effort a camper gives rather than the outcome. As society becomes more results focused, we continue to insist on the process. Yes, Winnebagans do achieve extremely high results. However, boys understand that being supportive of each other is what makes a lasting difference a difference that helps foster leadership and builds emotional and physical self-confidence.
The Winnebago program affords campers an opportunity to gain skills (and confidence) in a broad range of activities; many of which they would not necessarily have access to at home. Campers enjoy athletic instruction and competition (amongst each other and other camps) in a variety of sports that include baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, street hockey and tennis. Campers swim twice daily, build skills in a number of other more individual activities such as archery, sailing, video, drama, photography and waterskiing, and explore the beauty of Maine on both day and overnight camping trips.
Our trip program is outstanding. Each age group embarks on two overnight camping trips each summer usually one canoeing and one hiking. The trips are thoughtfully planned out to appropriately challenge boys in a safe yet meaningful way. Most campers return from their trips emboldened by their efforts and with a sense of accomplishment.
Campers and alumni consistently remark that experiences on trips are some of their most profound memories. Wherever Winnebagans go during the summer, people remark how nice, thoughtful, interested and interesting they are. This is a product both of who the campers are and of the culture we create at camp a culture where boys understand that being nice and respectful to one another is important and easy.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: The Winnebago Alumni Association (WAA) provides the opportunity for boys to attend Winnebago who do not have the financial resources to attend Camp Winnebago. The WAA brings alumni together and commits to provide the financial assistance for a multi-year experience. The Alumni Association helps select those boys who will benefit from its scholarship programs. - See more at: Our Camp Website Link: campwinnebago.com

CAMP LOCATION: Camp Caribou is located a mile in on a private 200 acre peninsula. We are lucky enough to be the only camp on the lake, with a mile and half of private lake front. This unique property creates a nice sense of privacy and seclusion, yet is located only 5 miles from the wonderful city of Waterville, with access to Maine General Hospital, movie theaters, shopping, restaurants and more.
CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Caribou is located a mile in on a private 200 acre peninsula. We are lucky enough to be the only camp on the lake, with a mile and half of private lake front. We have 20 cabins with private bathrooms, 9 tennis courts, 2 baseball diamonds, 1 outdoor basketball court, 12 target archery range, 275 yard golf range, 9 hole chipping course, outdoor climbing facility, collegiate hockey rink, 3 soccer fields, 2 lacrosse fields, and a 10,000 square foot gymansium.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our program offers a wealth of activities and programs. Most mornings, campers rotate with their bunk through three one-hour instructional periods. Over the course of a week, this exposes them to all the camp’s land and water sports, its extensive ropes course with high and low elements, as well as creative and culinary arts. This instruction uncovers new interests that campers often pursue in the afternoon, when they select three activities of their own. These “electives” change daily and allow campers to be self-directed. Having had Caribou in our family since 1968, we are confident that boys learn best with this combination of instructional and elective time.
Our staff takes a great interest in reaching out to our campers. They try to uncover new interests, improve on current interests and act as mentors to your children. They are passionate about what they teach. We as Directors also teach in the program. We love knowing and working with all of the campers. Camp Caribou is on a private and beautiful 200 acre peninsula. The facilities are fabulous and well maintained. Camp Caribou traditionally has a winning combination of wonderful campers, outstanding staff, and great facilities. This special combination provides a spirited, memorable, fun and safe summer experience for all.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: “The Caribou Collaborative Initiative, or CCI, is non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the Camp Caribou experience with deserving children whose families could not otherwise afford this type of opportunity. Our goal is to raise funds to support these “camperships” so that children may benefit from the tremendous growth that happens in our warm, safe and nurturing camp community. In addition to their personal and social growth, these children will have the opportunity to develop their skills in all the land and water sports and wilderness adventures that are offered at Camp Caribou, while spending their summer in the beautiful Maine woods. We will work in conjunction with several other non-profit youth programs out of Boston and New York City and rural Maine to help us support children from underrepresented backgrounds.
OTHER CAMP INFO: Caribou campers develop increased confidence as our experienced staff teaches them new skills and helps them improve existing strengths. Parents often ask, “Who is the typical Caribou kid?” Our answer is always that we attract the “what’s next?” kids—kids who love to learn and be active, are willing to try new things, and respond very well to the positive reinforcement of their counselors and peers. Caribou boys are fun-loving, warm, and welcoming. They represent a cross section of athletic abilities, very similar to a school classroom. Some are gifted athletes, some are boys with growing interest and skills in various sports, and some are just learning and beginning to develop. The only prerequisite is that they are interested in learning and love to play. Camp Caribou boys are also known for their excellent sportsmanship. Our philosophy is that we win with class and we lose with class.

The college has studios for the arts, film making, film photography, & dance, an on campus theater, a full commercial kitchen for our culinary program, tennis courts, a lake for kayaking/canoeing and more!
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Maine Arts Camp is a small camp community, geared toward creative kids and teens. Our camp is an accepting and inclusive place where we discourage any type of cliques & bullying. Campers make friends with like-minded campers, have fun with typical camp evening activities, camp songs and camp fires, while receiving high level instruction from experienced teachers and professionals in their fields. Whether campers like the visual arts, performing arts, culinary arts, film making, film photography or just are looking for a non-competitive and accepting camp community, Maine Arts Camp is a place where they can fit in. With no team sports, Color War or any type of competition, campers can grow & gain independence in a community that meets their needs.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: For returning 16 year old campers, we have a Senior Camper program.
OTHER CAMP INFO: We emphasize process over product, so the individual needs of each camper come before trying to put on an intricate show. With professional instruction, campers can learn skills & try new activities without the pressure they find elsewhere in life.
