CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our campers learn that people care about them and that honesty, consideration and fair play are real. We emphasize participation rather than winning and aim to strengthen campers’ self-esteem and resilience. Each child is facilitated to recognize, develop and increase his/her own abilities and learns to use those abilities to address challenges he/she faces. We treat each child equally while also recognizing that every child is unique.
Traditional Overnight Camp program is for campers ages 8-13 who have an option to attend one or two of our TWO-WEEK sessions (please see the Summer 2015 Schedule). The goals for each of the activities are to create an intentional experience through age specific, life-skills oriented, programming. Each program is educational so our campers learn important life skills (such as tolerance, respect, leadership, etc.) while having fun.
Agassiz Village traditional daily activities include but are not limited to: instructional and recreational swimming, arts & crafts, nature and outdoor living skills, sports and fitness, drama, dance, high and low ropes courses, canoeing and others. All of these programs are developed and lead by qualified and experienced instructors. Each camper group will go through at least five different scheduled activities every day during their session with each day ending with a different evening activity that will range from small group (cabin) activities to all camp events and celebrations. Through these every day programs as well as special/theme days and events we strive to provide a well-rounded experience for each of our campers that is fun and meaningful.
Teen Advancement Program (TAP) is a unique opportunity that offers more advanced programming and growth opportunities for our older campers. It is for those campers who are 14+ years old. It is an intentional two-week program focused on teen leadership skills development and community service. The first week of the session will focus on various leadership topics and skills like: group building, goal setting, teamwork, tolerance and compromise, integrity, role modeling, community service, etc. The second week will focus on service and learning projects. Campers in this program will also enjoy more responsibility and choice in the traditional A.V. camp experiences like swimming, canoeing, dance, sports, evening and other activities as part of the overall Agassiz Village community. The goal of this program is to raise our camper self-identity and awareness and develop specific leadership skills and values through purposeful experiential education to fulfill our mission: Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders!
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Internship for Staff Training, Education, and Placement (INSTEP) is a 4-week, tuition free program for a select group of 16-17 year old teens seeking hands-on leadership skills development and potential future employment with Agassiz. Each candidate is required to apply for the position and is interviewed prior to their selection. Two weeks of training focus on general leadership and job skills development. During these weeks participants engage in a set of hands-on workshops on teamwork, group forming and dynamics, conflict management skills, leadership styles, and career and college workshops. Additionally, they actively participate and lead various activities.
We will also have a college admissions officer from University of Southern Maine do a ‘Dean For A Day’ workshop. This interactive workshop focuses on college application importance and assessment by looking at a number of actual applications and discussing their strong and weak points. This provides an opportunity for the 16-17 year old participants to look at the realities of college applications and what they need to start focusing on in order to successfully get into the college of their choice. The other two weeks participants work as Jr. Counselors and program assistants.
As Jr. Counselors they assist a Agassiz Cabin Counselor with the day-to-day activities of a cabin group and live together with the group for a week. All participants who successfully complete the program will receive a scholarship, the amount based on their performance, to be used to further their education and leadership opportunities.

Your schedule will be all ready to go when you get to camp, full of six activities from your top ten list! After the first week at camp, you will sign up for the next week's activities. You may choose to stay with the same activities or try some different ones. The same is true for week three. We want you to go as far as you would like in an activity, but also be exposed to lots of new activities. If you don't see a particular activity you are looking for, don't worry! We probably offer it during Daily Choice.
Daily Choice gives you the chance to try something new every single day! During Daily Choice, you can try activities that are on the regular schedule (it's kind of like a "taste-test!") or you can sign up for something completely different, like Extreme Bocce, Ultimate Frisbee, or Magic Tricks. Another fun time is Evening Activity, where you and your bunkmates will participate together in an all-camp event or an organized activity just for you! CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In 1999, I was directing science camps for the Children’s Museum of Maine and had taught science at Scarborough Middle School and Westbrook College and was (and still am) a docent at the Portland Museum of Art. I told my family I wanted to create experiences for children that melded my love of science with my passion for art. My husband replied: “Science and art—sounds like Leonardo DaVinci!” Certified teachers collaborated
with me to develop a science and arts curriculum with theme-based programs and The DaVinci Experience was born!
At DaVinci Experience camps, whether it’s dinosaurs, drawing or building catapults, your children will follow their passions or discover new ones. They’ll make friends with children who may attend their local school or be visiting from another state or country. Campers will find mentors who inspire them to try new things and they’ll have the opportunity to explore new themes each week.
Mature, experienced teachers lead small groups of similar aged campers. Our low camper to staff ratio allows your children to fully participate in hands-on science activities, art projects and outdoor games. Their experiences are enriched by meeting guests from the community, as diverse as doctors and veterinarians to dancers and African drummers.
At DaVinci Experience we are building an inclusive community of learners and we would love to have your family join us!

A golden globe has been buried somewhere on earth – and it contains the key to a safe deposit box holding a $10,000 college scholarship fund. Participants who complete an hour of online summer learning activities each day will unlock secret animated webisodes that hold the clues to the globe’s whereabouts. Guess the treasure’s location first, and you’ll be the one on a plane to dig it up.
Enrollment is limited to the first 5,000 entrants.

Boys live in cosy whitewashed cabins where cooperation is key. Our motto, "Help The Other Fellow," becomes a way of life for all.
Birch Rock provides a nurturing place where boys can truly enjoy boyhood, disconnect from the electronic world, and reconnect to the natural wonders of life.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Birch Rock Community is distinguished by the many campers and counselors (3 to 1 ratio) who return each year, and even for decades. Birch Rockers are committed to being the finest mentors and passing on our values and cherished traditions to generations of campers to come.
Birch Rock celebrates the character development of its campers. Our motto Help the Other Fellow is the foundation of our community.
Birch Rock's mission is to build self-confidence and character in its boys.
A proud and accredited member of the American Camp Association and active partner with Maine Summer Camps.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Birch Rock’s Senior Camper and Counselor-In-Training programs provide opportunities for a selective group of young gentlemen to contribute to the positive growth and development of the camp community and cultivation of future leadership. Each summer, we accept individuals who demonstrate promise, champion civility, and have a sincere passion for the values of building community.
A Senior Camper (ages 15-16) typically returns to Birch Rock eager for a summer experience with a capstone of advanced achievement in one or two activities – i.e. swimming the Whale, a mastery in primitive skill development or target sports, or any activity he wishes to achieve with exceptional excellence. Additionally, he and his peers work together in mentoring younger campers who are new to Birch Rock and need a “BRC Buddy” to help adjust to residential camping. Senior Campers are learning to lead and are the ultimate role-models of the camp. They provide community service inside and outside of the camp, lead by example in terms of daily chores – i.e. inspection, table set-up, servicing at meal time, and all camp activity events.
A Counselor-In-Training, CIT (age 17) is still classified as a camper, but has limited apprentice-leadership roles working with children. A CIT will experience a variety of life-long learning skill sets including: fostering his communication skills, conflict resolution, time management and learning when you need to ask for additional support. CITs receive specific training and certification in basic first-aid, CPR, American Red Cross Lifeguarding, fundamental counseling skills in cabin management and activity skill planning. Successful CIT candidates often become Birch Rock Camp’s strongest counselors because they have demonstrated the genuine passion to give back to the community, and make their own mark in support of our motto: Help the Other Fellow. Moreover, CITs develop life skills of parenting, team-work, listening and helping themselves and each other to feel more confident and comfortable as future camp leaders.

We seek to create an artistic haven for our campers and staff, free of external pressures.
Campers at Acting Manitou grow as both people and performers, developing confidence in themselves and important skills of collaboration and communication.
Acting Manitou was founded in 2003 by Tim Brownell and Steve Borowka. At the time, Tim and Steve were both teaching artists working for The McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ. During the summer, Steve worked as Theater Director for Camp Manitou, a boy's sports camp, while Tim split time directing for The Imagination Stage in Washington DC and running Middle Ground Theater, the day camp that he founded in Middlebury, Vermont. In the summer of 2003, Tim and Steve joined forces to found Acting Manitou and took up residence at the end of the summer at Camp Manitou.
During the first summer of operation, the program had 11 campers most of whom came from Vermont. The following summer the program doubled in size to 22, then 30 campers the summer after that. Its fourth summer of operation doubled again to 60 campers and its fifth summer, the last at Camp Manitou, enrolled 80 campers and produced five shows.
In the summer of 2008, Acting Manitou took up residence next door to Camp Manitou, at a brand-new performing arts campsite called Camp Eastwood. In planning the design of the new campsite's theater, Tim and Steve created a versatile and intimate thrust stage, capable of putting audience members in close contact with the performers, as well as offering directors a variety of opportunities for flexible staging. 2016 marks Acting Manitou's fourteenth summer of operation, having produced ten shows in 2015, with 140 campers and 40 staff.
These days, the actors perform for standing room only crowds of family, friends, and local residents of the Waterville community. The Acting Manitou mission: Be inspired Support and inspire others Challenge yourself creatively Be a good friend to all Work tirelessly on your performance Take care of yourself and others Commune with nature Fall in love with your play Make lifelong friends And take joy in all you do.

Expeditions may include mountain biking, rock climbing, backpacking, spelunking, paddling, whitewater rafting, wilderness survival and more. Adventure Seekers will explore the best of the Maine and New Hampshire wildernesses on trips specially designed for different ages and abilities. All trips are led by Wilderness First Responders and Outdoor Specialists. The trips have been developed by Jeremy Robichaud, our Director of Adventure Recreation. He is a Registered Maine Guide, a Wilderness EMT, a Nationally Registered EMT, a Level II Project Adventure Instructor, and an instructor for SOLO Wilderness Medical School. Jeremy is a professional rock climbing guide and instructor, who is licensed by both the American Mountain Guide Association and the Professional Climbing Instructors Association.
LEADERS SCHOOL
Through group problem-solving competitions, intense physical challenges, unique traditions, and guided reflection, Leaders School helps shape teens into leaders. This is a pedal-to-the-metal week of excitement, formulated by experts in the field of experiential learning and group development. Leaders are pushed to their limits, encouraged to “slay their dragons”, and make connections from their Leaders School experience to their everyday lives. Graduates of this program become charged with a greater sense of self-worth, purpose, and obligation to improve the world around them.
Leaders School relies upon a perpetually-changing but time-tested model of outdoor adventure-education to push kids to explore their physical and mental limits, all the while maintaining a fun and supportive atmosphere that emphasizes “Challenge by Choice”. The two one-week programs are divided by age group between middle school and high school, and are primarily run at the Bangor Y’s Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan. At the core of the Leaders programming, however, are its “Challenge Days” expeditions that take campers all over the state. Young leaders can paddle canoes or kayaks along Moosehead Lake and the Penobscot or St. Croix rivers, sea kayak in Casco Bay, mountain bike through Acadia National Park, go rock climbing in Clifton, or hike Mt. Bigelow or Katahdin. Through introspection and experiential learning in a safe but challenging outdoor environment, leaders learn about themselves while gaining an appreciation for Maine’s natural treasures.
While at Leaders School, teens are challenged by Low and High Ropes Course elements to strengthen self image and build team skills. In addition to more standard classes such as archery, riflery and orienteering, leaders can also participate in Traveling Minstrels (music), Teen Talk (discussions about issues that affect youth), and Energy Infusion Theatre (performing arts). Campers build communication skills, develop teamwork, learn the dynamics of a group, discover themselves and shape goals for the future. The Bangor YMCA Leaders School program has graduated more than 4,200 young leaders in its 41 year history. The relationships and skills they build at Leaders School remain a part of their lives forever.
THE BANGOR YMCA WILDERNESS CENTER AT CAMP JORDAN offers so many choices all summer long, and the common thread is that every program will bring incredible growth, skills, friendship, and fun. Set on a 200 acre campus along the shores of Branch Lake in the beautiful Maine wilderness, our Sleep Away Camp, Adventure Seekers, and Leaders School give boys, girls, and teens of all ages and interests a sense of adventure, belonging, and purpose. These programs allow a child to progress and grow each year in our specially designed age appropriate adventures. Our goal is to partner with parents throughout their child’s life.
The Bangor YMCA’s Wilderness Center provides an idyllic group of resources in which to explore opportunities for personal growth and the enhancement of outdoor skills. The bedrock of our philosophy focuses on the value of experiential learning and encourages self-discovery through the wonders of the Maine environment.
The Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan has been fostering friendships, changing lives, and creating leaders for 106 years. We have established traditions and purposeful programming that encourages character building and leadership skills through the core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. Everyone is encouraged to take these life lessons home and contribute to their own families and communities.
Our programs are formulated to reflect the appropriate challenges of each stage of child development. As youth grow and gain a sense of comfort within our programs, they are encouraged to try new activities and new programs to gain a sense of challenge and mastery. Often children who begin with our Sleep Away Camp rise through the ranks, challenging themselves physically on Adventure Seekers expeditions as they grow older, moving on to our LIT and CIT programs, and capping each summer as a teenager with the Leaders School experience. Our programs for older teens bridge the gap between finding one’s personal strength and being a responsible member of a home community. Our Wilderness Center’s camper diversity brings this conversation globally and fosters discussions among tomorrow’s leaders from around the world.
The cabin group is the heart of our program, and we have recently made our cabin groups smaller to foster a closer bond between counselors and cabin-mates. Cabins eat together during each meal, participate in cabin challenges together, and spend “embers”, a time of reflection, sharing their day around a candle every night before bed. Veteran campers think of camp as their second home, a place where they feel appreciated, accepted for who they are, and at peace with themselves. It is our goal that every child develops this sense of connection with our community and our program.
ACCREDITATION: We are accredited by the American Camp Association, ensuring that we hold ourselves to the highest industry standards. The camp complies with all regulations of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
At the Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan, we pride ourselves on providing a staff that live out the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. Every staff person receives extensive training, preparing them to provide the best possible physical and emotional environment for your child. All counselors are First Aid and CPR certified, and we employ two live-in health professionals and have an MD on call for reference to ensure that every camper’s medical needs are met at all times. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker visits us regularly to communicate with staff about their campers’ experiences and challenges.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: LEADERS SCHOOL
The Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan's Leaders School is one of the most profound leadership development programs in the Northeast.
LIT/CIT
The Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan's LIT and CIT programs culminate the Sleep Away Camp experience. They provide teens with a strong set of skills they can use as future camp counselors and leaders in their communities. Our teen leadership development programs are some of the most comprehensive of their kind. Sixteen year olds begin with a two-week LIT program, which focuses on skill acquisition, team-building, personal development, goal setting, and community service. The CIT program is geared toward 17 year olds who aspire to work in childcare and continue as a leader at camp. During this three week program, participants learn the skills needed to care for children in a camp setting, develop interpersonal relationships, and work alongside members of the camp staff. Additionally, CITs will earn certifications in CPR and First Aid.
Many LIT and CIT participants were former campers who return to become volunteers and staff members, thus providing the legacy of energy and talent that has preserved more than 106 years of Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan tradition.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: No child left inside! Circumstances are different for everyone. We ask those who can afford to pay for camp to please do so. Acadia Mountain Guides offers options to those who want to attend camp but might not have the financial means.
Option 1. Camper sends us a letter in their own words on why they want to come to camp and the parent or guardian should send an accompanying letter stating what they can contribute to camp. We seek to find sponsors to support this program.
Option 2. REENO Foundation. This is a scholarship program honoring Nick Ruschmeyer, one of our former camp leaders who died from cancer recently. He did a lot in his short life. Per Nick’s choice, AMG is one of four benefactors of his foundation’s funds. Our campers can apply for a scholarship to attend.
Option 3: Many businesses and organizations offer financial assistance for camp. Often, all you have to do is ask. Here are some ideas. Your church or synagogue may have a fund. If the camper’s parent(s) or grandparent(s) served or are serving in the military, there may be funds available for camp through veteran’s groups. Other civic organizations and clubs, sororities, and fraternities, may have available funds.
Option 4: An example of the above:
The Lee Summer Camp Scholarship Program provides up to $300 in summer camp scholarships to children of Atlantic Acceptance and Maine Auto Credit customers. Deadline April 30th.
FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): We offer rock climbing programs to individuals and families throughout the spring, summer and fall. A great way to try out climbing and explore the vertical world.

CAMP LOCATION: Camp Caribou is located a mile in on a private 200 acre peninsula. We are lucky enough to be the only camp on the lake, with a mile and half of private lake front. This unique property creates a nice sense of privacy and seclusion, yet is located only 5 miles from the wonderful city of Waterville, with access to Maine General Hospital, movie theaters, shopping, restaurants and more.
CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Caribou is located a mile in on a private 200 acre peninsula. We are lucky enough to be the only camp on the lake, with a mile and half of private lake front. We have 20 cabins with private bathrooms, 9 tennis courts, 2 baseball diamonds, 1 outdoor basketball court, 12 target archery range, 275 yard golf range, 9 hole chipping course, outdoor climbing facility, collegiate hockey rink, 3 soccer fields, 2 lacrosse fields, and a 10,000 square foot gymansium.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our program offers a wealth of activities and programs. Most mornings, campers rotate with their bunk through three one-hour instructional periods. Over the course of a week, this exposes them to all the camp’s land and water sports, its extensive ropes course with high and low elements, as well as creative and culinary arts. This instruction uncovers new interests that campers often pursue in the afternoon, when they select three activities of their own. These “electives” change daily and allow campers to be self-directed. Having had Caribou in our family since 1968, we are confident that boys learn best with this combination of instructional and elective time.
Our staff takes a great interest in reaching out to our campers. They try to uncover new interests, improve on current interests and act as mentors to your children. They are passionate about what they teach. We as Directors also teach in the program. We love knowing and working with all of the campers. Camp Caribou is on a private and beautiful 200 acre peninsula. The facilities are fabulous and well maintained. Camp Caribou traditionally has a winning combination of wonderful campers, outstanding staff, and great facilities. This special combination provides a spirited, memorable, fun and safe summer experience for all.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: “The Caribou Collaborative Initiative, or CCI, is non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the Camp Caribou experience with deserving children whose families could not otherwise afford this type of opportunity. Our goal is to raise funds to support these “camperships” so that children may benefit from the tremendous growth that happens in our warm, safe and nurturing camp community. In addition to their personal and social growth, these children will have the opportunity to develop their skills in all the land and water sports and wilderness adventures that are offered at Camp Caribou, while spending their summer in the beautiful Maine woods. We will work in conjunction with several other non-profit youth programs out of Boston and New York City and rural Maine to help us support children from underrepresented backgrounds.
OTHER CAMP INFO: Caribou campers develop increased confidence as our experienced staff teaches them new skills and helps them improve existing strengths. Parents often ask, “Who is the typical Caribou kid?” Our answer is always that we attract the “what’s next?” kids—kids who love to learn and be active, are willing to try new things, and respond very well to the positive reinforcement of their counselors and peers. Caribou boys are fun-loving, warm, and welcoming. They represent a cross section of athletic abilities, very similar to a school classroom. Some are gifted athletes, some are boys with growing interest and skills in various sports, and some are just learning and beginning to develop. The only prerequisite is that they are interested in learning and love to play. Camp Caribou boys are also known for their excellent sportsmanship. Our philosophy is that we win with class and we lose with class.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In 1975, chemistry teacher George Hahn yearned to find a way to give his students a strong marine science experience through hands on exploration. Though classroom instruction is valuable, he knew they also needed to learn the practical application of marine science and so the Acadia Institute of Oceanography (AIO) was born. Located in Seal Harbor, Maine on beautiful Mt. Desert Island, the rugged Maine coast is our classroom. As the premiere marine science summer program in New England for 45+ years, AIO introduces students to the physical, chemical and biological aspects of oceanography while students explore their future in marine science.
Over 200 students from across the country and around the world attend AIO. These are all students with strong motivation and interest in learning about the ocean. CAMP FACILITIES: Our facilities are modern yet not flashy. Campers live in one of 34 comfortable screened cabins. The younger boys generally have 6 boys and 2 counselors in a cabin while the majority of boys have 4 or 5 campers and 1 counselor per cabin. There is no shortage of places to go and explore at camp. We have more than 65 buildings and campers easily find what interests them.
Many of the activities including Photography (outfitted with a fully-equipped darkroom), Nature, Arts & Crafts, and Video are housed in their own buildings. We also have our own radio station and a wonderful theater. Several large buildings allow for the entire camp to convene, and we even have a Ping Pong building where boys can play in their free time.
Meals are enjoyed in our spacious dining hall, one of the original camp buildings, which features a lofted ceiling and fieldstone fireplace. Our athletic facilities are top-notch. We have more fields than we can use at one time and count 7 Har-Tru tennis courts, 3 softball/baseball diamonds, 2 basketball courts, 2 soccer fields, a clay and a beach volleyball court, and a sprawling low and high ropes course.
Our waterfront features a beach area where boys can play, a shallow water area for teaching beginner swimmers, a six-lane floating pool built into the lake, a deep water area with a high dive and waterslide, and a separate dock system that accommodates our sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing and waterskiing programs.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Winnebago walks a fine line between creating a competitive atmosphere and understanding that success lies in the effort a camper gives rather than the outcome. As society becomes more results focused, we continue to insist on the process. Yes, Winnebagans do achieve extremely high results. However, boys understand that being supportive of each other is what makes a lasting difference a difference that helps foster leadership and builds emotional and physical self-confidence.
The Winnebago program affords campers an opportunity to gain skills (and confidence) in a broad range of activities; many of which they would not necessarily have access to at home. Campers enjoy athletic instruction and competition (amongst each other and other camps) in a variety of sports that include baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, street hockey and tennis. Campers swim twice daily, build skills in a number of other more individual activities such as archery, sailing, video, drama, photography and waterskiing, and explore the beauty of Maine on both day and overnight camping trips.
Our trip program is outstanding. Each age group embarks on two overnight camping trips each summer usually one canoeing and one hiking. The trips are thoughtfully planned out to appropriately challenge boys in a safe yet meaningful way. Most campers return from their trips emboldened by their efforts and with a sense of accomplishment.
Campers and alumni consistently remark that experiences on trips are some of their most profound memories. Wherever Winnebagans go during the summer, people remark how nice, thoughtful, interested and interesting they are. This is a product both of who the campers are and of the culture we create at camp a culture where boys understand that being nice and respectful to one another is important and easy.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: The Winnebago Alumni Association (WAA) provides the opportunity for boys to attend Winnebago who do not have the financial resources to attend Camp Winnebago. The WAA brings alumni together and commits to provide the financial assistance for a multi-year experience. The Alumni Association helps select those boys who will benefit from its scholarship programs. - See more at: Our Camp Website Link: campwinnebago.com
