CAMP LOCATION: Old Dominion University is located in the coastal city of Norfolk, Virginia.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Envision Lead Grow is a Norfolk-based non-profit organization designed to introduce entrepreneurship to middle school girls through camps, mentoring, webinars and conferences. Through this repeated exposure and practice, girls develop entrepreneurial, STEM-infused skills that allow them to contribute to and stimulate local economies.

Envision Lead Grow‘s mission is to increase the rate of entrepreneurship and break the cycle of poverty for 1,000 middle school girls in underserved communities in the U.S. by 2020. We are committed to helping them build their future through entrepreneurship by creating a community to support their success.

Angela D. Reddix is the President and CEO of ARDX, a multi-million-dollar healthcare management and IT consulting firm based in Norfolk, Virginia.

In 2016, Angela created the Envision Lead Grow movement, an online platform designed to support and encourage entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey.

Angela values education and is determined to share her knowledge with you.

Anyssa Reddix is a published author, speaker, and mentor to young girls. Sharing Angela’s passion for entrepreneurship, she jumped into Envision Lead Grow with both feet.

Anyssa is the Program Manager for Envision Lead Grow. She is in charge of organizing the stops along the 7-City Bus Tour. She has put together the team of counselors that will travel from city to city, she will be overseeing how they carry out the curriculum, “The 8 Seeds to Success in Business,” as well as organizing the logistics to get the bus on the road.

In 2016, the idea of the 7-City Bus Tour was just that. An idea. In 2017, thanks to the support, the time and the generosity of so many people, the first ever Envision Lead Grow cross-country tour was an overwhelming success. The national Envision Lead Grow 7-City Bus Tour kicked off the Envision Lead Grow entrepreneur program in the summer of 2017, making stops in 7 different cities (Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Memphis, TN; Norfolk, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Richmond, VA; and Greensboro, NC) across the United States. The ELG team shared its fast-paced, fun-filled curriculum, “The 8 Seeds to Success in Business”, written by Dr. Angela Reddix Founder and CEO herself, during a week-long summer camp in each city.

In 2018, ELG plans to expand its reach by serving two more regions- Bowling Green, KY; and Charleston, WV. Rather than touring each city like we did in 2017, in the summer of 2018, a total of 250 girls will travel from all branches to our home city of Norfolk to begin or expand their "8 Seeds to Success in Business" growth, together.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: ELG's Entrepreneurial Immersion Summer Camp is free of charge to our Girl Bosses and their family.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Envision Lead Grow is a Norfolk-based non-profit organization designed to introduce entrepreneurship to middle school girls through camps, mentoring, webinars and conferences. Through this repeated exposure and practice, girls develop entrepreneurial, STEM-infused skills that allow them to contribute to and stimulate local economies.

The Envision Lead Grow Entrepreneurial Program consists of 4 parts:
Summer Immersion
9-Month Mentoring Support
All City, All Girls Webinars
The Entrepreneur Institute

Summer Immersion
The Envision Lead Grow program begins HERE, at one of our entrepreneurial immersion summer camps. Middle school girls from around your community will come together at a sleepaway camp to learn the building blocks of becoming an entrepreneur. Many of the girls start the session as strangers and will leave as great friends. Over the course of the summer program, participants will take part in exercises to help them think bigger, to apply entrepreneurial, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) infused skills to everyday life and to make better decisions. At the end of the summer immersion camp, these young women will leave with a solid business idea, a Passion Pitch they can use to sell their idea to others and confidence to take their company - and community - to the next level.

9-Month Mentoring Support
The Summer Immersion summer camp experience is just the beginning of the process for these budding Girl Bosses. We partner with adult mentors in each city where Envision Lead Grow sets up. After the summer camp is finished, female volunteers within the community step in to guide, to support and to be a sounding board for these young entrepreneurs. Over the course of the school year, the mentors check in with their young mentees to keep them on track.

All City, All Girls Webinars
It can be lonely to be in business for yourself, so Envision Lead Grow designed a way to ensure these young entrepreneurs never feel isolated. Aside from the check-ins with their mentors, ELG girls and mentors have the chance to meet each other through virtual meetings. Through these monthly video calls, the girls get to learn from ELG Founder Angela Reddix, as well as, each other. We believe that it is important to have a network of support through not only their ELG branch city mentor, but other ELG peers and mentors from all branches, too.

The Entrepreneur Institute
Envision Lead Grow will reward business owners who are committed to making their companies thrive. The Entrepreneur Institute is a multi-day field trip that will bring together the leaders of Fortune 500 companies, mentors and business educators. It’s an all-expenses paid trip for the girls who participate in the mentoring sessions, the All-City Webinars and the ELG business challenges. Thursday night campouts take place at a local lakeside campsite; we pitch tents and cook over a fire. Performances take place in a variety of theaters, camps, schools, and other venues, culminating in a final performance festival in our own amphitheater.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Traveling Players Ensemble’s camp, small troupes of actors are carefully guided by professional theatre artists to perform in outdoor amphitheaters. Our program reflects the origins of theatre, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art. Each session culminates in a fully mounted and designed performance which tours to several locations, thereby cultivating stronger, more adaptable and capable artists and individuals.

Traveling Players emphasizes a meaningful engagement with nature. Our unique day camp (Monday-Friday) features a campout every Thursday—when performers learn Leave No Trace camping techniques, to pitch tents and cook outdoors. In their final week, teens camp out close to their performance site—giving them the experience of wandering entertainers who carry their dinner, tent and props in their trusty pack. As artists and backpackers, campers learn self-reliance and creative problem solving, and gain an appreciation of challenges and beauty.

Founding Artistic Director Jeanne Harrison has taught for The Folger Shakespeare Library, Catholic University, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Loyola University (MD), The Chapin School (NYC) and Interlochen Center for the Arts (MI), where she directed the Shakespeare program. Jeanne has worked in camping for 28 years, directed two other camps, is a certified Camp Director (American Camping Association), Wilderness First Responder (SOLO), and an Instructor with the American Red Cross. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: “Theater by kids, for kids!” Encore Stage & Studio has been serving children and their families in Arlington for 47 years. Their mission is to build life-long appreciation for live theater by involving young people in all aspects of theater arts — onstage, backstage, in the classroom, and in the audience. Encore achieves this through two primary avenues: high quality, developmentally appropriate theatrical productions that are by and for young people, and enriching, curriculum-enhancing educational classes, workshops and summer programs. Encore Stage will perform and offer an activity featuring theatre and improv games for children and families, run by their performers (ages 9–18) and supervised by their Director.

We Build Leaders. We know that leadership makes a difference. We give our participants the poise and confidence to develop as leaders, while encouraging peer mentorship and teamwork.

Our History
Encore Stage & Studio was incorporated as The Children’s Theatre of Arlington in 1967. To date, we have produced over 175 shows. Last season, over 200 young people participated as cast or crew members and almost 9,000 people enjoyed Encore’s performances.

Today, Encore has grown to include our production season and school year education classes and summer programs. Encore presents five fully realized productions each year under the guidance and direction of experienced theater professionals. Encore is unique in offering dramatic productions in which every actor and every behind–the-scenes technician is a young person under 18 years of age. Our summer production program, casts youth ages 15 and older, as well as college students and adult community members. Encore’s multi-age structure encourages mentoring and role modeling between older and younger participants. Our production opportunities are provided to participants at no cost.

In conjunction with, and as a foundation for, our on-stage productions, Encore offers a year-round series of theater classes, workshops, and summer camps. Stage Door, Scenes for Tweens, and It’s Elementary. Literacy and playwriting have become an important focus within our educational programming through Encore’s “Play-Ground” for middle school students.

After college, Cheryl's further formal training included studies with Josephine Forsberg at The Players Workshop of The Second City and with co-founder and Artistic Director Jeff Perry at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Cheryl was also a member of The Second City National Touring Company. She worked for 20 years in Hollywood as a professional actress, comedy coach, assistant voice casting agent, voice-over artist, director, and producer of comedy shows. In the 1990s, Cheryl's comedy classes for kids and teens were rated as "Best in L.A." by the alternative news weekly New Times Los Angeles.

Cheryl is also an individual acting coach who offers private lessons for actors who need help to prepare for auditions. She also teaches beginners and advanced actors practical advice about monologues, scene study, and improvisation with an emphasis on how to practice good diction and non-verbal communication skills that can often make an audition more effective and memorable.

Since 1995, Cheryl has taught acting to about 6,200 children, teens, and adults in both California and Virginia. When Cheryl worked in Chicago, she was nominated for a local Emmy Award and won a Joseph Jefferson Award for best actress in a revue. She also won a Drama Logue Theater Award for her performance in a revue in Los Angeles.

Cheryl was known to thousands of children in the 1990s for her starring role as Mother Goose in The Mother Goose Video Treasury. The musical nursery rhyme shows with puppets and live actors were very popular and favorably reviewed by Parents Magazine and are still sold today in the DVD format.

Cheryl also appeared on several network TV programs including as a series regular in the NBC show Against the Grain in 1993. She was also both a regular actor and a writer for The Motown Revue Starring Smokey Robinson in 1985. After re-locating from LA to Virginia In 2007, she started her own small acting school in the city of Falls Church for students from northern Virginia. But students also come from as far away as Baltimore, Frederick, Annapolis, Richmond, Haymarket, and Leesburg. Her school features small classes, private lessons, and audition-preparation coaching for advanced students who need as much individual time and attention as possible. Cheryl designs her classes and monolgues for all ages including adults without previous acting experience. Her students have been in films, won parts in school and community theater productions, and have filmed commercials and public service announcements.

Our new air-conditioned classroom offers ample free parking in front of a deluxe apartment complex club house that is located in a safe residential neighborhood near to the East Falls Church Orange Line Metro Stop and to major highways. Cheryl Rhoads is a proud member of the acting profession. See links below left to learn more about The Actors' Equity Association (AEA), FICORE in The Screen Actors Guild (SAG/AFTRA), The American Federation of Screen Actors and American Television and Radio Artists, The Writers' Guild of America (WGA), The Producers Guild of America (PGA), the Directors Guild of America (DGA) , and other fine organizations that support America's entertainment industry.

Thank you for visiting our site. You can see Cheryl's own acting demo below as a clip on You Tube or you may CLICK HERE to see her demo in a higher quality video but Quicktime 7 is needed to see it for best results.

VIEW CAMP PHOTO

CAMP LOCATION: Located in beautiful Bath County, Virginia, Camp Mont Shenandoah offers 60-acres of fields, woods with hiking trails, and waterfront access to a pristine mountain river. We are well located, just under an hour’s drive from the intersection of I-81 and I-64 in Central Virginia. For those coming from farther away, special arrangements for shuttle transportation to/from regional airports can be arranged. Our surrounding community offers a number of additional activities and amenities, including The Homestead Resort, George Washington National Forest, Douthat State Park, Garth Newel Music Center, and charming historic communities like Hot Springs and Warm Springs. Please visit our website for lots of camp photos and videos.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our traditional camp buildings range from cozy screened cabins to large lodge-style gathering places. Many of the original camp structures remain, such as the 1920s dining hall (where girls gather three times each day to eat family style, home-cooked meals) and West Lodge (where performances delight campers of every age). While we are rustic, we do have electricity and all our bathhouses offer flush toilets and hot water showers.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Founded in 1927 by Nannie West, Camp Mont Shenandoah is one of the oldest girls’ camps in Virginia. The exceptional Mont Shenandoah experience has kept families returning for generations and inspired numerous campers to return as counselors. Camp Mont Shenandoah’s mission is to create an excellent summer camp experience for girls. In a safe and caring environment, our camp provides the setting and structure each girl needs to grow -- physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

Through cabin living, fun, challenging activities, relationships with peers and staff, and longstanding traditions, we promote life skills that instill confidence, develop a girl’s sense of self and foster independence. Campers leave Mont Shenandoah having learned the guiding principles of our five virtues: Love, Loyalty, Friendship, Sportsmanship, and Spiritual Awareness. Camp Mont Shenandoah boasts a high rate of returning program staff, almost all of whom are former campers or junior counselors. Counselors are selected based on their maturity, stability, dependability, leadership skills, ability to relate to girls of all ages, sense of humor as well as their knowledge and demonstrated skills in the activity for which they are hired to teach. The camper-to-staff ratio is five to one, assuring each girl ample individual attention

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: In 2005, Camp Mont Shenandoah started The Camp Spirit Scholarship to help campers attend camp that may not otherwise be able to due to financial constraints. The Camp Spirit Scholarship is a fund within Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

OTHER CAMP INFO: If horses are your passion, you’ll be able to enjoy a comprehensive horseback riding program designed for girls of all ages and skill levels at Cabell Stable, our equestrian facility built in 2001. Our goals at Cabell Stable at Camp Mont Shenandoah are to improve riding skills, teach proper horse care and barn maintenance, learn to appreciate and value horses, and lastly (but certainly not least!) to have fun. From the moment they set foot in Cabell Stable, campers are taught to respect each horse and how to properly handle them on the ground and in the saddle. Our lessons are based on hunt seat equitation that focuses on the rider’s form. We limit our horseback riding classes to no more than five girls in the ring at a time, ensuring adequate instruction for each camper. Safety is of primary importance at Cabell Stable. When mounted, all girls must wear an approved (ATSM-SEI) protective helmet, long pants (or breeches) and boots with a heel. (We have helmets for campers to borrow if they do not have their own).

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: We realize how few events there are for families affected by autism. As a result, we wanted to offer a family friendly, Christian environment for the entire family. During our Autism Family Camp, parents have time to network with other families, siblings have activities just for them, and more. Overall the whole family has a great opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Horses/Equestrian, Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics, Sailing, Adventure, Travel, Wilderness/Nature, and more.

CAMP LOCATION: We are 1 1/2 hours East of Richmond on the Piankatank River on 100 acres of wooded/waterfront property. Our location makes us ideal for land and water based activities. Currently, we have a popular sailing program and an adventurous outdoor education program. One of the highlights of our property is a 30 acre island just off of our waterfront. Some of our tracks canoe out to the island and spend a night during the week (weather permitting).

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 3 large, very comfortable cabins with indoor plumbing and central heat and a/c. We also have a swimming pool, pavilion, dining hall, activity hall, boathouse, and large fields for sports.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: “Camp Piankatank Summer Camp and Retreat center seeks to be a place where children, youth, and adults can enjoy God’s creation along the Piankatank River in a Christian retreat environment that encourages physical, spiritual, social, and emotional growth..”

Our goal is to glorify God by pointing others to Him, whether that’s through our summer camp program, or through the retreats that we plan or host. Camp Piankatank is a Christian summer camp and retreat center owned by the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and located on the beautiful Piankatank River.

During the summer, Camp Piankatank becomes what it was meant to be from the beginning, a summer camp. For many years, Camp Piankatank was operated as just a summer camp. This is our passion, this is why Camp Piankatank exists, and this is why so many people love this place – they have experienced the live-changing power of Christ at Camp Piankatank, and can point to the very place at camp that they first accepted him as their Lord and Savior.

Meet the Directors

Steve and Niki Gourley have been Directors at Camp Piankatank since 2006. They both have a long history at the camp, and have a passion for camp ministry. They understand the impact that camp can and does have on a child’s life, and that’s why they continue to serve here.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We offer a CIT training program for students ages 15-17. After being accepted through the application process, CIT's come for a week of training alongside our counseling staff. During the summer, they attend two weeks of camp as a CIT. Each week costs $150, which is considerably lower than a typical week of camp. However, the training week is free of charge. CIT's will learn responsibility, professionalism, how to lead a group, how to lead a Bible study, and more. For more information, please contact our camp office.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We do offer financial assistance for families in need. Those interested can contact the camp for a scholarship application.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): In addition to our Autism Family Camp, we also offer two weekend family camps. We have a Mother/Daughter weekend and a Father/Son weekend. It's a great time for parents to get away with their kids and experience God's creation together!

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Outside of our summer programming, we rent out our facilities to all types of user groups. We are a great location to host your church or company retreat, whether it be for a day, weekend, or week. We can offer lodging, meals, high and low ropes activities, water based activities, meeting space with a/v equipment (subject to availability) and more.

Throughout the year Camp Piankatank is available for many different kinds of retreats, and hosts events for all non-profit groups, not just Baptist groups. We offer custom quotes to fit your needs, and we can do as little or as much as you would like us to do. From simply giving your Boy Scout troop a place to pitch some tents, or helping you plan your weekend retreat (with food, lodging, activities, and even a speaker) we are available to help.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Active Learning Services, Ltd operates enrichment programs designed to stimulate creative thinking, improve thinking, logic and memory skills and give children "thinking alternatives" to sports camps and other summer programs. Our programs include chess programs and camps thru USA Chess, Our Gamebuilder Video Game Creation Programs and our Active Learning Computer Enrichment Programs.

Our staff is, comprised of the best children's chess instructors in North America! The USA Chess camps are uniquely qualified to cater to the needs of the advanced scholastic player as well as the true beginner. USA Chess hit its first milestone in the summer of 2000 producing the largest chess camp ever held in the United States, with more than 250 students enrolled. What was most surprising, however, was the amount of absolute beginners in attendance - more than 50% of the total enrollment was just starting to play chess. This realization led to the national rollout tour of 100 camps in more than 70 cities. The annual tours have been immensely successful with several thousand campers attending this year alone.

USA Chess thrives on providing a structured environment that is extremely conducive to learning chess. We handpick the best children's chess instructors from all over the United States and bring them to each camp. We believe our team is most effective in teaching chess to children of all ages and levels. The exceptional organization and ever-fun curriculum has fueled much interest from scholastic players and coaches from around the country, prompting them to request USA Chess camps in their areas.

At the same summer camp locations, we also offer the immensely popular Gamebuilder Video Game Creation Camps, The Active Learning Computer Animation Programs, and other Computer Enrichment Programs such as Modding, Networking and Hosting with Minecraft. We now offer seven unique programs in all.

At these camps, children are assigned a computer for the week; they spend the week learning to create their own one-of- a- kind video games in our Gamebuilder Camps, Animation Projects in our Animation Camps, also Modding, Networking and Hosting with Minecraft.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summit Camp is a co-ed sleepaway camp for ages 8-19 years with issues of attention: AD/HD, HFA/Asperger’s Disorder, and/or learning differences. This is accomplished through a well-orchestrated and expertly staffed backdrop to a largely traditional camp experience- guided challenges, waterfront, adventure course, and more. It is our goal and desire to take our campers from observing peer interactions to engaging in them, to learn and celebrate their own strengths and successes, and to feel a sense of belonging and shared community with those around them while they are with us.

Summit Weekenders provide a youth-group style social retreat for adolescents to have an oasis of independence, enjoyment, and success during the school year months. Regardless of the specific program, Summit provides an expertly staffed, highly structured, and truly fun experience for our youth, and has been doing so since 1969.
