BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Reptile Encounters Camp is an adventure into the world of herpetology, perfect for young reptile/animal enthusiasts! This conservation based day camp utilizes interactions, observations, and STEAM lessons about the turtles, snakes, lizards, and crocodilians at the PHS Sanctuary. We also have specialty camps like Vet Camp, Croc Camp, & Snake Camp! We also have day-camps year round for extra time with PHS animals on school breaks!

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: We have special needs campers in many of our camp sessions and do our best to make every possible accommodation so that they may also receive the camp experience.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:

CAMP LOCATION: We are located in north Scottsdale, near the major cross streets of Dynamite Blvd. and Scottsdale Rd. We are approximately 6 miles north north east of the Loop 101/Scottsdale Rd. exit.

CAMP FACILITIES: PHS is a non profit reptile sanctuary with over 1700 animals. We have two classrooms in our Conservation Center which has multiple avenues for technological opportunities, including research and experiments. Some camp activities will occur outdoors, as many of our animals are housed in outdoor enclosures on our 2.5 acre property.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Phoenix Herpetological Society believes that "Conservation Begins With Education" and that youth are truly the future of many of our creatures. The Reptiles Encounters Summer Camp has received glowing reviews from campers and parents, who are always wow-ed by the experiences the campers have while at the PHS summer camp.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We do offer limited counselor in training programs for teenagers who want more of a leadership role in the camp process. Preference is given to campers with previous PHS experience, but new campers are also welcome. We use the same application as the campers, but require the potential CIT to come in to the sanctuary for a conversation with his/her parent or guardian about what the CIT responsibilities include so that everyone is on the same page.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Scholarships are available on a limited basis and require an additional application.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: PHS offers educational events, family outings, and school programs all year long, including special events and tours of our sanctuary. Email the PHS Director of Outreach at katelyn[AT]phoenixherp.com for more information or for a copy of our Educator Resource Guide.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: MehtA+ Machine Learning Bootcamp is a six-week interdisciplinary summer bootcamp, which will provide students with expert instruction in cutting edge university-level AI/Machine Learning, which students will then apply to Digital Humanities projects run by professors from top US and International universities.

Our advanced theory and application based curriculum is student-led and covers all the hottest topics in research and industry. We provide the tools for students so that they can get accepted to their dream colleges and thrive in college and beyond.

The MehtA+ Tutoring teaching team has taught more than 300 students who have received 30+ scores on their ACT, perfect scores on SAT subject tests, learned some of the most in-demand skills in the job market and have been admitted to some of the top most universities in the countries such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, UPenn, Carnegie Mellon, University of Toronto, Johns Hopkins and UIUC.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: At MehtA+, we ignite student passion for engineering. Our offerings are catered towards students from Kindergarten to College Freshman and involve a fusion of the humanities and the sciences. We believe the best way to learn something is to apply it and as such, all of our opportunities are application-based.

Our bootcamps give students an in-depth opportunity to learn concepts that are normally taught at the university level, while our workshops serve as a fantastic introduction to a new subject. In order to make engineering education more accessible, our digital kits are always free to everyone and allow students to create something awesome. Volunteerships are offered to former students who are looking to volunteer their time and apply what they have learned for social good, as they intern for one of our clients.

Our college preparatory services, which involve subject tutoring, standardized test preparation and college consulting, provide students the resources they need to be ready for college.

This camp is highly recommended for any student involved in yearbook or school news photography, those interested in taking portraits for events, friends, or family, and those pursuing a future career in commercial photography.

Each student will leave with a digital portfolio of the work made during camp. Students should have a DSLR camera or digital camera with some manual functions. Box lunch provided.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Summer 2017 Science Academy, a unique educational experience unlike anything else in the world. Middle and high school students interested in earth and ecosystem sciences, collaboration, and leadership development are invited to spend a week at the iconic Biosphere 2 research facility. Come join the cutting-edge science community at the University of Arizona for a world-class educational adventure!

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:

CAMP LOCATION: The Biosphere 2 facility, located approximately 30 miles north of Tucson, serves as a laboratory for controlled scientific studies, an arena for scientific discovery and discussion, and a far-reaching provider of public education. Its mission is to serve as a center for research, outreach, teaching and life-long learning about Earth, its living systems, and its place in the universe; to catalyze interdisciplinary thinking and understanding about Earth and its future; to be an adaptive tool for Earth education and outreach to industry, government, and the public; and to distill issues related to Earth systems planning and management for use by policymakers, students and the public.

CAMP FACILITIES: The on-site casita village is composed of 28 rustic, Santa Fe-style houses. Each casita has multiple, private bedrooms that share a central living room and large kitchen (although all meals and snacks are provided in a central location for the 2017 Biosphere 2 Summer Science Academy). Bathrooms are generally shared (suite-style) among a couple of bedrooms. The oversized rooms feature high-speed, wireless internet access and central air conditioning.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Student participants will learn and practice science 'under-the-glass', participating in hands-on research projects in the Biosphere 2 biomes: tropical rainforest, savanna, ocean, mangrove marsh, and coastal fog desert. Participants will apply scientific skills to conduct experiments and collect data while working side-by-side with Biosphere 2 researchers. The week will culminate with presentations of research findings. All instruction and activities are conducted in English.

The ratio of researchers/counselors to students is at least 1:8. The Academy staff also includes UA Outreach Scholars who will chaperone the casitas. The Outreach Scholars are college undergraduate and graduate students drawn from the University of Arizona.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: We are holding 8 1-week summer camps with a performance for friends and family on the Friday (last day) of that week. Each week's camp will devote time to a particular well known band and genre of music.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: We are currently working with some local organizations to work have camps for special needs campers and autistic campers. Details should be available soon.

CAMP LOCATION: We are located on a couple of avenues from Rt. 17 off the Peoria Ave exit on the east side of the 17. We are on a side street with minimal traffic and there is plenty of parking.

CAMP FACILITIES: We are currently occupying around 15,000 sq. ft. of space. We have 3 smaller instruction rooms, a small rehearsal/drum instruction room, 2 larger rehearsal rooms/classrooms, a very large main stage performance room/rehearsal room, a lunch room for all the campers, two large rest rooms and a dressing/green room.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We are going to teach the art of learning and mapping out songs. This will include the various genres or music over our 8 1-week music camps. We will teach each camper how to be a band leader, stage performance, communication on the bandstand, how to rehearse and ultimately, how to perform. We have some of the most distinguished musical talent on our advisory board who are responsible for outlining a successful music program for our young campers.

Besides teaching music and music related subjects, we are committed to teaching the business of music so that our young and talented campers will someday be able to follow their dream and passion of being a performing artist and sustain a living at doing so, much like our founder, Joe Costello.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At this point, we are too new to offer any sort of scholarships or financial aid but we are looking into the programs.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): At this point, we are not offering any family camps during the summer but we are looking into a family program on Saturday mornings like a drum circle type event.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We offer year-round music instruction, band coaching, music business expertise, mentoring programs, workshops, clinics, seminars, rehearsal space & online music courses.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Our camp offers an 8AM drop off and a 6PM pickup for those parents needing time to get to work and get back to the camp after work. There will be a small fee associated with this extra accommodation.

The first camp starts on May 31st - it is our Beatles Camp and our last camp ends on July 29th.

Each weekly camp cost $500

There will be $25 a day early drop-off/late pickup fee (optional)

Founded in 1947, the Phoenix Boys Choir offers programs featuring training in voice, music theory, and performance for boys age 7 to 14. Members of the Phoenix Boys Choir receive a world-class music education and one of the most significant experiences of their lives.

The Artistic Staff at the Phoenix Boys Choir includes music educators who are not only certified and highly qualified music education instructors, with a specific focus on choral music, they are also artists themselves and engender a love of the arts to our students.

The Choir has performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera, Phoenix Chorale, Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix, collaborated with Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix Youth Symphony and the Desert Botanical Garden. Additionally, the Phoenix Boys Choir was invited to perform at the inauguration of Governor Doug Ducey, and also sang at the memorial service for former Governor Raul Castro. The Choir has performed the National Anthem for the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes, 2021 NASCAR Race, Arizona Rattlers and the Arizona Cardinals. The Choir is a Phoenix point of pride.

Beginning with the Cadet Choir, boys can progress to Town and Tour choirs, and upon graduation, participate in the Young Men's Ensemble and then the Masters Choir. When the boys reach the performance levels of Town and Tour Choir, they have the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally.

Katerina Romanenko, Ph.D. Assistant Director of Youth and Family Programs

An experienced educator and visual culture historian, Dr. Romanenko specializes in Museum education, art history, American History, and object-based learning in formal and informal environments. She holds a PhD in Art History from the City University of New York and for more than 15 years teaches art history and works in Museum education. She also holds a BA in Education Sciences and has experience in research, development and implementation of educational programs for different age groups.

Alicia Mino, Art Educator, Manager of the School and Community Programs

An accomplished practicing artists and art educator, Alicia Mino received her Master’s in visual communication from the Metropolitan University of Chile, She spent fifteen years in Italy studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture. She presented in numerous art exhibitions and founded the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years. In 2008 Alicia moved to Philadelphia where she continues to exhibit her work and teaches art.

Lindsey Murphy, Art Educator and K-8 Program Coordinator

An art educator with over a decade of experience in the field of education, Lindsey Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology; concentration in Archaeology from Millersville University, and an Elementary Teaching Certification from Millersville University. She worked as a general education classroom teacher in the Oxford Area School District in Chester County, PA for 8 years, and has worked in PAFA’s education department over the past 11 years creating and implementing numerous museum tours and art making experiences for children and families of all backgrounds, becoming the K-8 Program Coordinator in 2019..


Melissa Hendrixson, Art Educator

Melissa Hendrixson is an artist and art educator who has worked in Museum Education for over five years. She has her Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Studio Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has gained experience through assisting the coordination and development of various museum programming including family programs, youth art classes, and summer camps. She now works for the School and Community Partnership Program as an art educator where she develops and implements museum tours, school lessons, and community outreach programs to support student learning, parental engagement and visual literacy initiatives.

CAMP LOCATION: Our Scottsdale facility is located in Scottsdale with major cross roads of Shea and 70th street. It is 4k square feet on fun.

Our Camps at Xavier Prep is located in the gymnasium basketball courts.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our camps are indoors and utilizes the space in order to rotate games and activities for the younger group and the older kids group. 40 minutes on and 15 minutes rest is the typical rotation time but down time and up time is adjusted based on activity levels of the participants and instructors.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our sports camps (holiday, spring, summer & fall) are held at different valley locations. Get ready for some FUN! We will be learning & playing the following sports: soccer, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, dodge ball, volleyball, tennis, kickball and many more playground games!

We will be doing some arts & crafts, bouncing in our bounce house, watching movies and doing scavenger hunts, scrimmaging and more!

Approximately 5 – 6 hours of active sports each day in our clean, safe & air-conditioned 4000 sq ft PartyZone facility!

All sports equipment will be supplied. Yes, your child will be grouped with children their same age for safety reasons and also for the best learning experience.

Yes, your children will be running, jumping, playing, sweating and laughing all day and they WILL be tired at pick-up time! At B.E.S.T. your child is not just a number in hoards of children. Each is a special individual, we learn their names, their likes and dislikes, what they excel at and teach them accordingly. If, for any reason, you have any specific questions, we are always here to talk to you. We want to make your child’s summer experience the BEST one ever!

FOOD & SNACKS

Snacks: B.E.S.T. will serve fresh fruit for morning and/or afternoon snacks daily. This has been cleared as a nut free snack by all who have been concerned. We encourage you to pack one snack for half day campers and 2 snacks for full day campers if your children do not like this. Lunch: We will be eating lunch every day at 12:00pm-1:00pm. Please supply your child with a sack lunch daily with their name on the sack along with an ice pack inside if required and certainly if they are picky

A.M. HALF DAY KIDS: DO NOT NEED TO bring a LUNCH! ALL AM Kids and FULL DAY kids get fed.

Friday Lunch: Do not pack a sack lunch on Fridays! It is a special FREE PIZZA FRIDAY! FREE for all our full-day campers! Please DO supply a sack lunch if your child does not eat pizza. They will each receive 2 full slices of pizza so if they require a lot more nourishment please pack some additional food. Should half day campers want to join us they will be charged an additional $5 for this additional hour. Drinks: Water is the only beverage we supply each day. Your child’s water bottle will be replenished with bottled water throughout the day (and is always available through our water fountain) so they always remain hydrated.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We welcome C.I.T.'s (Counselors in Training) 14-15 year olds to join us in Camp to facilitate our Senior instructors. This is an unpaid position but one to learn how to facilitate, lead and care for children in this sports camp setting.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: ASU’s Center for Archaeology and Society is excited to offer it’s annual Summer Day Camp! Offered together with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, campers age 8-12 will learn how people of the past utilized their resources, and how their actions impact the present and the future.

Focusing on connecting the past to the present and learning to incorporate sustainable practices in their everyday life, campers will participate in educational and hands-on activities that center around subjects including archaeology, desert ecology, and Southwest cultures. They will also participate in archaeological fieldwork and demonstrations, art and science projects, nature hikes, and cultural experiences.

Camp sessions are limited to 20 children, and advance registration is required.

Hubbard Sports Camp, established in 1998, is a co-ed multi-sport summer camp offering one week sessions to campers 4 1/2 to 13 years old. Hubbard offers sports and games to meet the interests and skill levels of our campers in a safe, nurturing, structured environment. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Coach Charli Turner Thorne is the winningest coach in Sun Devil women's basketball history and No. 2 in the Pac-12 in most career wins (400), Charli Turner Thorne is at the helm of an Arizona State program that has made it to the postseason 17 of the last 18 years, including a school record five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2005-09), two Elite Eight appearances and a pair of Sweet 16 finishes. ASU's 12 NCAA Tournament appearances under Turner Thorne are nine more than what ASU had in the 15 years prior to her arrival in Tempe. Has also earned a pair of gold medals with USA Basketball.

This is the eighth year of our Imagination Theatre Camp for young children. This camp offers a different workshop each day with the philosophy of the camp to give kids a bit of many different aspects of performing as possible in order for them to realizes all the possibilities and perhaps find something they really enjoy doing.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:

CAMP LOCATION: Huachuca Oaks is located 12.5 miles south of Sierra Vista, AZ on S. Hwy 92. The camp has 30 acres of live oak trees mixed with some manzanita, juniper and pine. The facility is on the sloping foothills of the Huachuca Mtns and borders on the Coronado National Forest.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have two bunkhouses and one lodge housing 120 people in 16 rooms, all with heating/ac and bathrooms. There is a main chapel, indoor swimming pool, two dining halls, a small meeting hall/staff lounge and 6 full RV sites.

Sports at camp include softball, basketball, field games, archery & rifle ranges, limited mountain biking and rock climbing, an obstacle course and a 425 ft. long zip line.

We also have a craft shop, an old museum, an outdoor amphitheater with a large stage, fire pit and outdoor lighting, a large game room with snack corner and a Christian bookstore selling camp apparel and reading material.

Our Indian Oaks tipi village is currently under reconstruction and will be opening in 2015.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our summer camp programs are open to children from grades 1 - 12 and are grouped accordingly. Summer camp is Christian based with exciting speakers, fun weekly themes and live Christian bands for the junior and senior high weeks of camp. There are plenty of activities throughout the day and evening to keep the kids moving and having fun with others.

Throughout the remainder of the year, the camp is open to various rental groups from the surrounding communities that use the camp for a variety of activities. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and others use the camp for activities, earning badges and doing service work.

Churches bring out youth, men and women for weekend retreats while a number of charter, private and public schools use the camp for science programs and overnight stays while exploring the rich history of southern Arizona.

We are host to several family reunions each year and also are privileged to host and cook for special dinners and receptions held at the camp.

Each winter the camp hosts up to 4 RV couples from the SOWER's program that brings volunteer workers to the camp to help with remodeling, repairs and new construction at the camp.

Cooking internships available for those interested in learning more about commercial kitchens and cooking for large groups, dates vary throughout the year.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Huachuca Oaks is conveniently located just 40 minutes southeast of I-10, within 30 minutes drive of such great historic towns as Tombstone, Bisbee and an hour from Douglas. This area is well know for such characters as Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, Geronimo & Cochise, the outlaw Pancho Villa along with copper, silver and gold mines.

Other areas of interest include the Ramsey Canyon hummingbird sanctuary, Kartchner Caverns, Coronado National Memorial, the Slaughter Ranch, the Dragoon Mtns. and Chiricahua National Monument.

We are always open to interested volunteers who have skills in construction and maintenance, housekeeping, cooking, office work and landscaping.

The camp is owned by the Southwest Church Connection, a non-profit 501(c)3 and the camp is also a stand-alone non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We are in partnership with Prescott Pines Christian Camp located in Prescott, AZ.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: At Childsplay Academy, young people work with top local theatre professionals. Classes cultivate theatre skills, while also developing a child's social, emotional, and intellectual skills. We maintain a low student teacher ratio and the professional staff of teaching artists utilize carefully designed exercises to ignite imaginations and inspire a love for the performing arts.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: We have many special-needs students who have successfully participated in our classes. To set your child up for success in our program, it is important that you inform us of any special needs your child may have, and strategies that we can use to help your student be successful. If your child has special needs, please feel free to call 480-921-5751 to discuss how we can work together toward success in our program.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Theater, Musical Theater, and more.

CAMP LOCATION: Just west of downtown Tempe, Childsplay is one block south of W University Dr, two blocks east of Hardy Dr.

CAMP FACILITIES: In 2008, Childsplay officially opened the Sybil B. Harrington Campus for Imagination and Wonder, a 33,000 square foot support facility. The former Mitchell School facility provides more than 7,000 sq. ft. of administrative offices, 5,500 sq. ft. of classrooms for the Childsplay Academy, 7,000 sq. ft. of production space for prop and costume construction and storage, 7,000 sq ft for rehearsal halls and support space, and approximately 6,000 sq. ft. of storage.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Childsplay Theatre Academy, kids work with top local actors, directors, choreographers, music directors and professional teaching artists. All class instructors have an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and are background checked.

All Childsplay classes work on acting techniques and are a great way to gain skills while developing confidence, making friends and, most importantly, having fun!

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Childsplay Academy offers classes year-round. We offer a range of Saturday morning and afternoon classes in acting and musical theatre. Fall and Spring break classes are also available.

OTHER CAMP INFO: With over 40 different classes this summer, Childsplay offers programming accessible for the beginner to experienced teenage thespians. Onstage production classes perform a full length play in a week, musical theatre marathons where students workshop a short musical in a week, and theme based classes which combine drama skill practice with an interesting topic.
