CAMPER AGES: Girls age 7-16

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Camp Riva-Lake blends our long history and traditions with fun and exciting activities for our campers. We are an all-around overnight camp with horse back riding, sailing, swimming, tennis, dance and many other activities. We attract girls from all over the country into a more personal setting than you will find at larger "mega-camps". We celebrate sisterhood, nature and achievement in a beautiful and rustic surrounding of the hills of Tennessee.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Dance, Theater, Fine Arts/Crafts, Basketball, Soccer, Horses/Equestrian, Swimming, Tennis, Waterfront/Aquatics, Sailing, Volleyball, Wilderness/Nature, and more.

CAMP LOCATION: Camp Riva-Lake is set on acres of wooded land overlooking the Tim's Ford Lake, with a private cove for swimming, sailing and canoeing. We have equestrian facilities on camp grounds. We are located south of Nashville, in the Cumberland plateau, near Sewanee and many beautiful natural resources. We are able to take advantage of the many rivers and state parks in this area.

CAMP FACILITIES: Riva-Lake has 10 cabins set along the bluff overlooking our cove and ravine, with some separation for the older campers. Bathhouses are on both areas of the camp. Our lake has a "sunken" swimming pool/dock, docks for sailing and canoeing and a water trampoline. The rustic playhouse has a stunning view of the lake and sunsets, and is home to our basketball court. Equestrian facilities, tennis courts and campfire areas are also on-site.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: CRL was established in 1921 as a premier riding camp, and quickly became a well-known all-around girls' camp in the South. Today, riding is one of many activities offered to our campers. Whether you are a 3rd/4th generation legacy camper or a new camper, you will quickly become part of a special sisterhood. The smaller size of Riva-Lake fosters a lasting bond among the campers, with a special sisterhood among Big & Little Sisters, and our 2 teams (the Marathons and Olympians).

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: CIT program available for girls aged 16. CITs receive free room & board and are trained to be a counselor, helping in activities and with camper programs.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Some financial assistance may be applied for.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Join fellow middle- and high-school music students in making new music for virtual ensembles mentored by renowned com- posers, including Brian Balmages, Steven Bryant, Viet Cuong, Tyler Grant, Garrett Hope, Cait Nishimura, Benjamin Taylor, Alex Shapiro, Joseph Sowa, and Haley Woodrow. Together, we will expand our creative abilities and forge new musical friendships for the social distancing era and beyond.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:

CAMP LOCATION: All camp activities take place online via Zoom. Participants from across North America are welcome!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Each student will participate in:

• A large ensemble—which will workshop and give the world premiere of a new work by one of the mentor composers
• A small ensemble—which will co-create, rehearse, and premiere new work(s) by the student participants
• A small home group—which will feature games and social activities
• (Optional) Two, hour-long private composition les- sons—which will give students professional feedback on their music and personalized instruction
• A final, virtual concert—on Friday, July 31, 2 PM EDT

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We desire to make it possible for everyone who wants to join us to be able to participate regardless of family finances. We have a limited amount of funds available. Please email for more information.

1) Youth Academy - Designed for boys and girls ages 6-10. Fun, exciting and engaging activities are all part of the week. We do this with individual and small group activities with the introduction of fun technical exercises and games that are engaging and pertinent for the age group and ability level. With our unique curriculum youth players will be exposed to the proper technique such as shooting, dribbling, 1v1, crossing and much more.

2) Junior Academy - Designed for boys & girls, goalkeepers and field players ages 10-13. The program has been designed to build a foundation that will help the participant’s progress to the next level. This will be accomplished in a fun, entertaining and positive environment. Each session will be progressive in nature and will conclude with a relative small-sided game that will highlight the topic of the session. Competitive tournaments will be played throughout the week, and be the highlight of our evening sessions.

3) Senior Academy - Designed for High School players, including incoming freshmen, who are ready to play and be trained at the next level. . Throughout the week, players will be put in a competitive environment that will bring out their very best. Players will be exposed to the four dimensions of training, Physical, Technical, Tactical and Psychological. In our unique evening competitions, players will have the opportunity to compete against other teams, other players and themselves.

4) College Prep Academy - Our goal is to provide an incredible environment where serious soccer players will be exposed to the highest level of instruction in anticipation of playing at the highest level possible. High Performance Seminars will be led by trusted experts in their field and will include: Sports Nutrition, Soccer Specific Conditioning, ACT/SAT Preparation and Sport Psychology. Goalkeepers and field players will be exposed to an intensive training environment for those who are serious about fulfilling their potential.

5) College Showcase Camps - Now available for the serious soccer player at select No.1 Soccer Camp sites throughout the country. The directors of our College ID Showcase Camps are all currently active college coaches. In addition, the College Showcase ID Camps allow you to be seen by, and to work directly with college coaches and their assistants from programs all over the US. BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: The focus of Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory's camp is astronomy and space science. Campers learn about how scientists discover the secrets of the universe, from exotic black holes to the nature of light. During the week, campers are engaged in exciting hands-on educational science activities including launching rockets, working with and building electronics, and working with telescopes.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:

CAMP LOCATION: Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory, 1000 Oman Drive, Brentwood Tennessee. The Observatory is located off of Granny White Pike, approximately 1/2 mile north of Old Hickory Blvd.

We are on a high peak, surrounded by Radnor Lake natural area.

Please note we are NOT on the main Vanderbilt campus.

CAMP FACILITIES: Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory is located on a nine-acre hilltop in Brentwood, TN that is almost completely surrounded by Radnor Lake State Park. The dense woods that surround the Observatory allow visitors opportunities to see a multitude of wildlife including songbirds, turkeys, squirrels, and deer. The Observatory itself houses a 24” Cassegrain reflector as well as two other permanently-mounted telescopes. There are numerous exhibits throughout the observatory, a library where events such as summer camps and lectures are held, and a large brick patio in the rear where outdoor activities take place.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: An underlying philosophy of the camp program is that every child with a interest in science should have the opportunity to explore and understand the universe in which we live. The camps are led by staff outreach astronomer Dr. Billy Teets and are facilitated by seasoned volunteers with extensive knowledge in astronomy and physics, as well as high school-age counselors who serve as mentors to the camp participants.

The camp curriculum has been created by an expert team of astronomy professors, space scientists, and area science teachers. Participation in group activities builds self-confidence, problem solving ability, and social skills.

• Interact with cutting-edge research astronomers
• Learn how telescopes work, and build your own
• Safely view the dynamic surface of the Sun through a solar telescope and attend a nighttime telescope viewing
• Journey to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL for a day-long adventure
• Learn about basic electronics, and use the knowledge to build working projects
• Construct a functioning model Hubble Space Telescope
• Make your own realistic models of comets, and learn how craters are formed
• Design and launch bottle rockets as an introduction to rocketry

An experienced educator and visual culture historian, Dr. Romanenko specializes in Museum education, art history, American History, and object-based learning in formal and informal environments. She holds a PhD in Art History from the City University of New York and for more than 15 years teaches art history and works in Museum education. She also holds a BA in Education Sciences and has experience in research, development and implementation of educational programs for different age groups.

Alicia Mino, Art Educator, Manager of the School and Community Programs

An accomplished practicing artists and art educator, Alicia Mino received her Master’s in visual communication from the Metropolitan University of Chile, She spent fifteen years in Italy studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture. She presented in numerous art exhibitions and founded the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years. In 2008 Alicia moved to Philadelphia where she continues to exhibit her work and teaches art.

Lindsey Murphy, Art Educator and K-8 Program Coordinator

An art educator with over a decade of experience in the field of education, Lindsey Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology; concentration in Archaeology from Millersville University, and an Elementary Teaching Certification from Millersville University. She worked as a general education classroom teacher in the Oxford Area School District in Chester County, PA for 8 years, and has worked in PAFA’s education department over the past 11 years creating and implementing numerous museum tours and art making experiences for children and families of all backgrounds, becoming the K-8 Program Coordinator in 2019..


Melissa Hendrixson, Art Educator

Melissa Hendrixson is an artist and art educator who has worked in Museum Education for over five years. She has her Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Studio Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has gained experience through assisting the coordination and development of various museum programming including family programs, youth art classes, and summer camps. She now works for the School and Community Partnership Program as an art educator where she develops and implements museum tours, school lessons, and community outreach programs to support student learning, parental engagement and visual literacy initiatives.

Toronto, ON Camp: Our program is held at Doubletree Hotel in Mississauga, Ontario, located 20 minutes west of Toronto. San Diego, CA Camp: Our program is held at the beautiful Sheraton Mission Valley San Diego Hotel. Conveniently located in the heart of San Diego and just a short drive from Los Angeles and Orange County, this location offers modern facilities and accommodations including hotel rooms, an outstanding performance ballroom, meeting rooms, pool, outdoor courtyard, and lovely restaurant. The vibrant music scenes and cities of both San Diego and Los Angeles combined with the beautiful southern California sunshine and beaches make this the perfect spot to spend a week with us.

Nashville, TN Camp: Cumberland University is located in just outside of Nashville, TN – Music City USA! In addition to the great location, this campus features great housing and dining facilities and has fantastic music facilities including a beautiful auditorium and stage, large music classes, and practice wenger units. Near-by attractions include historical buildings and museums, several annual festivals, and the Center for the Arts. Seattle, WA Camp: Our program is held at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel Seattle Airport South. Conveniently located near Sea-Tac Airport and South Puget Sound, this hotel offers spacious hotel rooms featuring ultra-comfortable beds, a mini fridge, ergonomic work space, a laptop-sized safe, meeting spaces, performance ballroom, restaurant, fitness center and heated outdoor pool. The location features beautiful scenery, including views of Mount Rainier and the Seattle skyline and waterfront. BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Flip Fest Summer Gymnastics Camp consists of 12 week long sessions throughout the summer, for gymnasts ages 7-17. A private lake, high ropes course and a multitude of exciting, unique activities outside the gym, provide an inspiring and energetic atmosphere.

CAMP LOCATION: We are located 1 hour west of Knoxville, TN in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Camp property is 150 beautifully wooded acres with many trails and a 32 acre private lake. Please visit our website for photos and videos.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 15 modern camper campers and modern, well-equipped staff cabins along. A brand new, state-of-the-art, air conditioned gym, high ropes course, dining hall, canteen for snacks and games and a private lake for swimming and tubing round out the Flip Fest facilities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Flip Fest at Lake Frances is getting ready for its 13th year of operation. In June of 2006 we moved the camp from its original location in Knoxville to its new permanent home, one-hour west, on 150 beautifully wooded acres in Crossville, Tennessee. Small creeks and natural springs feed Lake Frances, a 32-acre private lake on the property, making Flip Fest one of the most picturesque camps in the country. Flip Fest is the only summer camp owned and operated by two Olympians John Macready and John Roethlisberger. When families send their children to Flip Fest we work hard to insure they return home with not only an increased zest for gymnastics but also for life! Join us for the summer of 2016 at one of the most exciting and impressive gymnastic camps in the country.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Camp Counselor:
Camp Counselor positions are for individuals ages 18-25 yrs. old who love to work with children. We look for counselors with high energy, enthusiasm and a desire to make camp an unforgettable experience, while ensuring camper safety. A hard-working demeanor and willing attitude to jump into any camp activity are a must. Counselors get to enjoy staying in a cabin with 10-16 campers throughout the week. A weekly paycheck along with the benefit of room and board are provided by Flip Fest. Although this is a gymnastics camp, non-gymnasts are welcome to apply for counseling positions. Previous work with children is not required, but looked highly upon. There are 4 blocks (each 3 weeks long) of counseling positions available. Weekend Camp Counselor:
Weekend Counselor positions are for individuals 18-25 years old who love to work with children. We look for counselors with high energy, enthusiasm and a desire to make camp an unforgettable experience, while ensuring camper safety. Weekend Counselors get to enjoy staying in a cabin with campers that are staying for multiple sessions of camp, with the benefit of room and board provided by Flip Fest. Weekend Counselors are on duty from Friday 12:00pm - Sunday 12:00pm. Together two to three Weekend Counselors organize games for the kids to provide entertainment and safety throughout the weekend. Previous work with children is not required, but looked highly upon. Lifeguard:

Ropes Course Staff:
For individuals ages 18 and up interested in getting trained to take the campers through the ropes course in the pine forest. No previous experience in necessary, but a plus! CAMP FACILITIES: We have 10 year old modern cabins with central heat and air and tiled bathrooms. All are accessible. The swimming pool is a beach front entry along with a chair lift. We eat all our meals in the air-conditioned dining lodge.There is a health lodge on staff supervised by a RN 24 hours/7days a week. Athletic fields, waterfront activities and arts and crafts are part of the daily activities.

CAMP LOCATION: From Nashville – Take I-24 west to exit #4. Take left off interstate. Go about 2 miles, turn right on 101st Parkway beside Fazoli’s Restaurant(Hwy 374). Follow this by-pass until it ends and drops you out on Hwy 79. Take a right. Follow about 4 miles, turn left on Hwy 233. Follow about 7 miles then turn left at the 3-way stop onto Lylewood Rd. CAMP FACILITIES: We are located on the Cumberland River on the Stewart, Montgomery county line. The historical farm house of Maj. Thomas W. Lewis will be the “home away from home”. During the rest of the year it is Lylewood Inn Bed & Breakfast, owned by Mandy Williams. It has 5 bedrooms and one cottage. Children will share rooms and be attended by counselors and monitors. All linens and meals will be provided. Unlike most camps, they will be staying in a home, and learning to work together as a family to accomplish daily chores on the farm.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Mandy’s true passion in life is to watch children grow, learn and reach their full potential in life. She has a unique gift in reaching out to children helping them discover new concepts from a different era. Having spent 30 years doing youth camps, youth ministries and rearing of children she is looking very forward to sharing these ideas and concepts with each camper personally at our Live & Learn Camps. She enjoys cooking, quilting and all forms of country living.

Arlene’s business experience from 20 years at Vanderbilt University in the IT field is crucial in the day to day operations of our camps. She was the Den Leader for both her sons Scout Dens and with the summer Bible School programs. She understands and sees that children need to be independent and self-sufficient. She enjoys crafting, scrapbooking, and family genealogy.

Audrey is a 25 year old college graduate working at the YMCA Child Care Program. She had worked for the YMCA Summer Camp Program, where the children lovingly named her “Ralph”. She is CPR, First Aid and lifeguard certified. She has been a camp councilor at Lylewood Christian Camp since she was 16 years old. Audrey has the ability to relate to children in a way that makes her an instant leader. She enjoys baking, quilting and sewing.

Lara is a 19 year old college student CPR Certified, First-Aid and AED. She has worked at the Lylewood Christian Camp. She enjoys cooking, canning and has a vast experience in gardening. Lara was raised on a farm and has taken care of an animal or two in her day. She loves working with children and has a passion for all crafts.

Autumn is a 20 year old student at Dalton State College from Adairsville, GA. She is currently majoring in Argi-Business. She loves the farm life and enjoys fishing, being outside, sightseeing and helping others. She is CPR trained. Autumn leads a Wednesday night bible class for girls in first through fifth grade at her local church.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): The formal banquet gives the girls the opportunity to shine with pride while serving dinner to their families. Their accomplishments will be displayed and honored during the awards ceremony.

Why camp STEM?

camp STEM provides offerings that are carefully designed to provide hands -on impact in influencing children’s attitude toward science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Kids want to have fun in the summer. We have integrated science and math with many fun and inspiring activities. Our approach allows children to investigate a STEM project while learning the underlying scientific concepts that keep them engaged.

We break the monotony of doing STEM projects all day.

What ages are the camps designed for?
Our camps are designed for rising kindergartners to sixth graders.

Are different aged children in the same camp?
Our camps are divided by grade. Camps are divided by grade K-2, 3-4, and 5-6.

Who are the camp STEM instructors?
camp STEM instructors are certified teachers on summer break. All of our instructors have experience working with elementary-aged children, and receive camp STEM specific training. The main characteristic of our instructors is that they all share a love of STEM to spark campers’ imaginations.

How do I register my child for a camp?
Depending on the location of the camp, you can register by mail, over the phone, in person, or online. On occasion, we provide on site registration assistance to our partner-hosted camps.

Note: Registration requirements, start dates, end dates, and minimum camp size may vary by location. Transportation to and the from the camp is not included.

How soon do I need to register to reserve a space for my child?
Some camps and dates fill very quickly, while some may have spaces available up to the start date. We recommend that you register as soon as possible.

What is your refund policy?
camp STEM (i.e. our online registration system, phone-in, mail), cancellations are accepted up to two weeks (14 business days) before camp starts. A 50% fee ($75.00) will apply if cancellation is not tendered beforehand.

Can I sign my child up for more than one camp?
Yes, in fact, we totally encourage it. Each camp STEM offered is completely different so your child can enjoy them all without repeating similar activities.

What is the fee for camp STEM?
All fees are $150.00. The fee covers daily snacks, lunches, and all field trips. Transportation to and from the camp is not included.

When is camp STEM offered?
camp STEM is offered every week in June to accommodate busy summer schedule’s.

Where is camp STEM held?

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Volunteer as a camp STEM helper or chaperone. camp STEM welcomes families of all campers, retirees, college students, high school juniors and seniors, and community partners who support STEM. You can volunteer as a chaperone on weekly field trips or a helper at the weekly camp. You can also assist with coordinating lunch, or providing supplies and other assistance to classrooms.
