CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Founded in 1924, Forest Acres is located 2 miles away from its brother camp, Indian Acres Camp for Boys, in Maine's White Mountain Region. The community is a perfect example of traditional camping; providing a warm, safe, supportive and relaxed atmosphere where the children can have a positive growing experience with no pressure normally experienced when being around boys. Personal achievement is stressed in a community that has 150 girls. Many children return summer after summer and the global community has many second and third generation campers.
A commitment to each camper as an individual is the key to these flexible programs that balances the needs and requirements of everyone. Building community and teaching independence surround a 94-year history of caring for children. Forest Acres is a global community that welcomes children from 24 states and 8 different countries; fostering an environment where campers and counselors learn about different cultures and traditions from one another.
The camp offers a community-based experience that focuses on the needs of each camper while teaching them to work along with fellow campers. Over 85% of the campers 14 years of age and under, return each summer and a number of staff have been with the camp, 30+ years. The camp offers something special for everyone. The brother-sister program is unparalleled because it allows the boys and girls to be separate yet get together for various activities throughout the summer, thus offering the optimum camping experience that few others can offer.
