BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Whether you want to be center stage or behind the scenes helping to make the magic, Young Actors Camp is for you. Students will have opportunities to develop performance skills including; auditioning, character development, improvisation and creative movement. No experience necessary!
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Theater, Musical Theater, Fine Arts/Crafts, and more.
CAMP LOCATION: The Edna Vihel center is located right next to the Tempe Public Library on the Southwest corner of Southern Ave and Rural Rd.
CAMP FACILITIES: The students will get the full experience with a proscenium stage, full stage lighting, and a dressing room.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Students in the June session of Young Actors Camp will audition for, rehearse, and perform an original play, Around the WORLD in Just 5 Plays, written just for this camp. It will be a multicultural adventure through folklore and common stories from different parts of the world.
July students will perform a TBD musical. Our musicals tend to feature familiar tunes in a completely new setting. Enjoy not only learning to act and sing, but also learning to dance with trained choreographer.
Both sessions are taught by experienced instructors with a passion for youth and the performing arts!
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Residents of Tempe or Guadalupe, or Tempe Public School students (including three Kyrene School District), who receive government subsidies can apply for a discounted rate. Visit a registration office for more information.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The City of Tempe continues to offer drama/theatre classes year round for students ages 4-12.
Classes include:
School Kids in Drama - a miniature versión of the summer camp, learning a 10-minute play over 8 weeks.
Readers Theatre- all of the fun of a one-act play, but none of the pressure to memorize (great for English language learners and those who would like to see improvement in reading comprehension)
Creative Drama - for the young ones, begin learning a variety of acting skills through fun drama games and activities.

June session runs from June 5- June 29 with a performancen on June 28th in the evening.
July session runs from July 5- July 27 with a performance on July 26th in the evening.
