BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: True Friends provides short-term, direct care services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Educational, recreational and other support services are offered at five locations in Minnesota-Camp Friendship, Camp Eden Wood, Camp Courage, Camp Courage North, and Camp New Hope.
Core programs include summer and winter resident camp, year round weekend respite care and specialty travel services. Our program focuses on building self-esteem and independence; opportunities to experience success, discover new interests, and develop friendships. Services are specially designed for persons with developmental, physical or multiple disabilities, special medical needs, Down Syndrome, autism, or other conditions.
SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: All of our programs are designed for individuals with special needs. We offer adapted programming and equipment, along with well trained program and health care staff.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Basketball, Soccer, Horses/Equestrian, Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics, Volleyball, Adventure, and more.
CAMP LOCATION: Camp Friendship is located on 115 acres of scenic woodlands and is on Clearwater Lake just 60 miles northwest of the Twin Cities near Annandale, Minn.
CAMP FACILITIES: The fully accessible camp offers modern cabins and facilities, dining hall, arts and crafts building, recreational hall, nature building, gymnasium, indoor pool, climbing wall, ropes course and more.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: True Friends CIT*1 program is a paid personal & social advancement internship where CIT*1s participate as junior staff members with an emphasis on learning and training. The CIT*1 program initially covers all aspects of camp operation then the focus progressively moves to personal advancement through acquiring skills and experience within a cabin and program.
During activities, CIT*1s spend time in cabins discovering to discover how to efficiently coordinate a cabin group, assist with direct care and ensure a quality experience for all participants. CIT*1s are high school student, age 16 – 17. Must be able and willing to meet the direct-care and recreational needs of participants; be physically strong and mentally alert; work well with others and enjoy helping others
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: With the generous support of donors, we are able to provide financial assistance to many participants with proven need. To request aid, the financial assistance portion of the application must be completed and submitted with the application. Anyone eligible for waivered services or Consumer Directed Community Supports (CDCS) can contact us and your social worker for information on how these funds can be applied to camp.
