BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: SJ Riding Camp, a summer horse camp located in Connecticut for girls ages 8-16, is an ideal place to improve your riding skills, learn to ride, learn more about horses, take on the responsibilities of horse care, and have fun! It's also the best summer camp to make new friends, because everyone here shares your enthusiasm for horses!

CAMP LOCATION: SJ is located 2.5 hours from Manhattan and 1.5 hours from Boston on 88 acres of woods and fields including 3 riding rings, cross-country course, and private lake and ponds. Please visit our website for photos. Contact us for a tour!
CAMP FACILITIES: Our cabins house 4 to 8 girls, grouped by age. Our Dining Hall, Health Center, Overlook Program Building, Craft Pavilion, Archery Range, Waterfront, Horse Pond, Riding and Hiking Trails, Canteen, Tennis Court, Basketball Court, and two Shower Houses provide great spaces for fun and learning!

All of our riding instructors are Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) certified.
SJ is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), licensed and inspected by the State of CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and the Dining Hall/Kitchen are inspected and licensed by the local area health department.
Owned and operated since 1956 by the Haines family. Owner/Exec. Director Pat Haines, Directors Julie Morton and Alexandra Thomas, and Maintainer Terry Thomas all live onsite.
Our staff and campers come from a variety of locations and backgrounds from the US and around the world and our camp values diversity and openness to new experiences. SJ is a place for girls to gain self-confidence, friends, and new experiences through a common love of horses.
HORSES + CAMP = MAGIC!
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) programs are designed for campers who are going into the 11th or 12th grade.
The basic CIT program consists of 5 training weeks (Staff Orientation Week and the 1st 4 weeks of camp). If the CIT is successful in the program she may be invited to stay for additional time (up to 5 additional weeks) during the camp season. There is also a “mini” CIT program which consists of 3 training weeks (Staff Orientation Week and the 2 weeks during the 3rd session) and the potential for being invited for one additional week. OTHER CAMP INFO: SJ runs for nine weeks, in 1, 2, and 3 week sessions.
Campers are placed in a riding group with other campers at a similar riding level.
During each session additional lessons, shows, and events are available.
Swimming with the horses is a favorite activity, as are supper rides, evening all-camp programs, and campfires. SJ's well-rounded traditional summer camp fun mixed with lots and lots of horses = perfection!

3rd Session (2 weeks) 8/76 – 8/19: $2350

$1200 - one week, $2350 - two weeks
