CAMP FACILITIES: The facilities include 3 performance halls, lecture spaces and practice rooms with grand pianos reserved for participants' use. Residence hall life is supervised by trained counselors (student-staff ratio is about 9:1). Students under 12 must live off campus with a parent/guardian.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In its 33st year, the IU Piano Academy has established itself as one of the premier summer study programs for talented pre-college pianists.
The Academy curriculum features daily group classes, master classes and lectures, 3 levels of theory classes, piano ensemble instruction, Feldenkrais classes (optional), supervised practice in designated practice rooms, and social and recreational activities. There are ample performance opportunities including in-house performance classes with peer feedback, six public student recitals, and many solo and chamber music concerts by visiting guest artists.
This program is for serious, fairly advanced pre-college pianists who seek to take their playing to the next level through concentrated study and exposure to artist teachers and like-minded peers who can inspire and motivate them. Instruction is tailored specifically to each student's talents and challenges in order to foster maximum progress over the session.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Partial merit scholarship and (need-based) financial aid awards are available to qualified applicants. See our website for more details.
OTHER CAMP INFO: Admission to the Piano Academy is selective. Applicants should pre-register online and submit 1) a link to a Youtube recording of two pieces of contrasting style and historical period; 2) a list of repertoire studied/performed during the past two years; 3) a recommendation from their principal piano teacher.
