BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Enjoy an exciting session of interactive filmmaking experience in a fun-filled, textbook-free environment. This unique summer camp challenges your child to work creatively as individuals as well as in teams.
In one or two amazing, action-packed weeks, our campers, ages 13-18, will learn to handle professional equipment including lighting, video camera, computer editing program and go through all stages of film production.

Video/Filmmaking/Photography, and more. Screenwriting, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, & Acting.

The camp emphasizes the encouragement of the children to express themselves and their artistic visions through the process of filmmaking. Guided by industry professionals each step of the way, participants will learn the fundamental skills in filmmaking and bring home a finished film of their own.

Instructor: ERIC LAU is an alumnus of NYU's prestigious Graduate Film Program. He has worked in the film industry for 34 years. His films, Nightwatchman and Ragged Edge, won the Best Narrative Film Award in the 1981 and 1984 Hong Kong International Film Festivals as well as Best Production, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography Awards in the 1984 First Run.
Lau has been a Director / Producer / Cinematographer for many commercials and feature films. In 2007, he directed and produced Elevator Weekend which won the Official Selection category for both the Staten Island Film Festival and Long Island International Film Festival. He has produced and directed international TV commercials for Snapple, Toyota, China Unicom, and Blue Man Group among others, and garnered numerous awards including the Telly Award and the Gold and Silver Awards for the Taiwanese Annual TV Advertisement Awards.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Filmmaking Afterschool Program
Solar’s afterschool program offers children ages 13-18 enormous fun and a great learning experience. Kids will work in teams to learn how to write, shoot, edit, and direct films. We offer a hands-on filmmaking workshop, promoting storytelling in a fun, textbook-free environment.
Our philosophy is “they teach, we inspire.” The kids will be using professional filmmaking equipment while learning teamwork, expressing their thoughts, and developing their voice. Our experienced teachers will make sure students walk away from the program has had a ton of fun and laughs, having gained valuable experience, and with a complete short film created through their own artistic vision.
Schedule - Thursdays, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Fall Session - 14 Classes
September 14th to December 14th
Winter Session - 13 Classes
January 4th to March 29th
Spring Session - 11 Classes
April 12th to June 21st
CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
Schedule Monday – Friday (Hours: 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM)
Session 1: June 25 - 29 (1 Week)
Session 2: July 2 - 6 (1 Week)
Session 3: July 9 - 13 (1 Week)
Session 4: July 23 - August 3 (2 Weeks)
Session 5: August 6 – 10 (1 Week)
Session 6: August 20 – 31 (2 Weeks)
Tuition - $1,200: One Week, $2,300 Two Weeks
Includes:
Instruction by industry professionals
Supervision during session hours, meals and field trips
A ratio of at least one adult per 5 campers
Professional equipment for lighting, filming, sound, and editing
*This is a day camp. Housing and lunch are not provided.
