BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Camp Chimaqua is an overnight weekend camp for children ages 6-12 grieving a loss through death. Camp Chimaqua is a program of the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss and is focused on helping your child learn about loss, develop coping skills and build self-confidence. This is achieved through fun-filled activities and opportunities for small- and large-group sharing. Camp is staffed by professional counselors and specially-trained volunteers. At Camp Chimaqua, each camper is individually paired with an adult buddy to provide companionship, support and supervision. A camp nurse is available through the duration camp. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Pathways Center counselors meet with families to determine if camp will best meet your child’s needs.

CAMP LOCATION: Camp Chimaqua is held at Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center. Two hundred acres of scenic hills and woodlands are ideal for this overnight camp. The opportunities for children to explore nature, develop friendships, broaden their experiences and grow on their grief journey at Gretna Glen are life changing. The safety of Gretna Glen campers is something we take seriously. In order to provide a “Safe Sanctuary,” we carefully select staff members and volunteers through an application process that requires references, background checks, and child abuse clearances. Staff and Volunteers are trained before working with campers. The campsite is accredited by the American Camp Association. To earn accreditation, Gretna Glen complies with more than 300 health, safety and program quality standards
CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Chimaqua has acres of woods, fields and tumbling brooks. The setting includes rustic lodges, cabins, a swimming pool, lake, trails and many other amenities.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Chimaqua is an overnight weekend camp for grieving children ages 6-12 offered by the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss. Our focus is on helping your child learn about loss, develop coping skills and build self-confidence. This is achieved through fun-filled activities and opportunities for small- and large-group sharing. In the safe and accepting environment of camp, the children learn ways to understand and express their feelings about their loss. The campers also benefit from spending time with other children who have also experienced a loss. Camp is staffed by professional Pathways Center counselors and trained volunteers, and a registered nurse is on-site for the duration of camp. A specially-trained adult buddy is paired with each child to provide constant companionship, support and supervision throughout the weekend.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): In addition to Camp Chimaqua, The Pathways Center for Grief & Loss offers individual grief counseling year round and three 8-week grief group series throughout the school year. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Camp Chimaqua is a program of Hospice & Community Care's Pathways Center for Grief & Loss. The Pathways Center for Grief & Loss is a free community resource for children, teens and adults who are coping with the death of someone significant in their lives. Our mission is to support and encourage the inherent ability to heal and discern new paths on one's journey through grief. Professionally trained Pathways Center counselors are committed to:
- Providing support to individuals of all ages
- Educating others about common grief responses
- Facilitating opportunities to interact with others who have had similar experiences

OTHER CAMP INFO: Any child must meet with a Pathways Center counselor to determine if camp will meet the child's needs. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
Camp Chimaqua will be held over the last weekend of May, Friday through Sunday. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the only cost is a $25 registration fee per child. Registration deadline is May 1. Financial assistance is available. Registration fees are nonrefundable one week prior to the date of the camp.
