BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: The Audubon Center of the North Woods (ACNW) offers a variety of youth camps – something for everyone! Our camps have a focus on wildlife, nature, challenge and outdoor skills. Experience the great outdoors and make memories that last a lifetime!
All of our camps are overnight, residential camps with indoor lodging. ACNW provides great accommodations, wonderful scratch-based meal service, and a top-notch staff and activities to provide the best outdoor camp experience around.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics, Team Sports, Science, Academics, Adventure, Wilderness/Nature, and more. Rock Climbing, High Ropes, Zipline, Canoeing, Whitewater Rafting, Archery, Wildlife, Animal Care, Animal Tracking, Swimming, Hiking, Fishing, Outdoor Survival Skills, Zoology, Ecology, Etc.
CAMP LOCATION: Centrally located about 90 miles north of the Twin Cities, on the east side of Grindstone Lake near Sandstone, MN. Please visit our website for location, driving directions, photos and more.
CAMP FACILITIES: For our onsite camps, we have 3 lodging buildings, including our modern Crosby Lodge with 14 dorm-style rooms with private bathrooms, our Lowry Lodge with 5 dorm-style rooms with shared bathrooms, lounge and woodstove; and our historic Schwyzer Lodge, complete with living room, fireplace and kitchen. Lodging is based on type of camp and numbers of attendees. Room assignments are gender-based.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Audubon Center of the North Woods (ACNW) is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 residential environmental learning center. We are a proud leader in environmental education and renewable energy and are committed to providing lifelong learning experiences to people of all ages. ACNW has been providing environmental and outdoor education programs since 1971. We ‘walk the walk’ in demonstrating environmental stewardship and have implemented a wide variety of renewable energy sources and energy conservation measures. Our focus is on developing an understanding, ethics and responsibility regarding the environment and the role of humans through formal and informal experiences that link nature and humans.
We believe that a healthy environment starts with and is perpetuated by a personal connection to it, and ACNW is and has been committed to that goal for over 40 years. We offer a great variety of environmental learning experiences for people of all ages, with programming in natural history and science, team-building, adventure programming, wildlife, energy, outdoor skills and human history.
Our highly trained staff are all certified in CPR and Advanced First Aid - some are certified as Wilderness First Responders.

Embrace winter over the long President’s Day Weekend. Treat your family to 3 nights/4 days of discovery, learning and fun. This exciting, all-inclusive family program offers age-specific and all-family program options to choose from. Whether you’re looking for snow activities, skiing/snowshoeing, nature learning or quality family time, we have something for the whole family.

Your accommodations will include a private room for each family and you'll find your lodging is perfect for a weekend of adventure, relaxation and retreat. Each spacious room in either Crosby or Lowry Lodge has bunk style beds and sleep up to 6 or 8 people. Our meals have a reputation of their own and have become known as the best in the area. Delicious, healthy, wholesome meals, each carefully prepared with creativity and taste, are served in our large dining room with beautiful stone fireplace and wonderful views of the woods and lake.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We offer a great variety of year-round environmental, outdoor and challenge learning experiences for people of all ages, with programming in natural history and science, team-building, adventure/challenge, and outdoor/ environmental education. Our specialty is multi-day (overnight) K12 field trips.
Whether a day program, multi-day immersion visit, weekend retreat, or college course, ACNW provides the best environmental, team-building, challenge and outdoor skills educational programs for youth, college students, adults, and families.
